Sony is at fault for making the purchase. It was a bad investment, not working out (so far).
Bungie has had a long history of fukk ups before Sony. They didn't run into issues because of the purchase, the issues have been there.
The biggest mistake was letting them run “independently”. There’s a difference between knowing how to make good multipalyer shooters and knowing how to run an efficient business. No reason Bungie should have been held on a pedestal over successful SIE studios like Naughty Dog and Guerrilla who half the Sony execs come from.
Sony should have been able to interject themselves much sooner when they started falling deeper into the red.

It's basically just praying on your hands and knees Marathon defies all expectations and becomes a Fortnite/Apex level industry juggernaut now if there's no tentpole Destiny installment anywhere in the development pipeline. And the initial reviews from the dedicated Tarkov/extraction shooter community were so negative when they demoed it that they were forced to delay it indefinitely for a total revamp, with still no concrete release date in sight so...
