Skill wise I think it's Mayweather pretty easily/clearly; when you add athleticism and pure natural reflexes is where Roy Jones becomes a head above everyone else on the planet. Roy's skill is actually underrated because of how athletic he was.

I agree with most of what you're saying, except... Roy def had mad boxing skills, and the difference between the 2 is small, but Floyd had more skill evidenced by the way both performed after their physical skills began to decline. Roy fell off pretty bad, while Floyd remained elite because of his skillset.
I agree with you, but to be fair on that assessment, Floyd never went through anything near the type of physical changes Roy went through in going to heavyweight and then losing all of that weight to come back down either. I think if Floyd maybe went to 175 or some crazy shyt like that and then tried to come back down to 140 or 47 to compete even his boxing skills may not be able to save him at that point.

I generally agree that Roy lost something. He battled courageously in his 1st fight against Tarver to pull out a tough win. In the 2nd fight against Tarver, Roy looked like himself, but fought too carelessly and got caught. In the 3rd Fight, Roy was the better fighter in the ring that night, except he fought too scared to actually win. The knockout was in his head, and he couldn't get past it. It was more mental than physical for him. That was very disappointing as a huge Roy fan.

Floyd all day,no contest. Roy is like building a boxer on any boxing video game and giving that boxer very high stats, then winning a bunch of matches because of that. Roy is more physically gifted, but Floyd is way more skilled. And so are some other nikkas like Bernard.
If Roy was so highly skilled,he'd did some great things after FALLING OFF or getting old. Instead he's done nothing noteworthy since tarver crushed the buildings.
And this is coming from someone whom erroneously thought Roy was the goat in 2003.

I actually watched RJJ during his whole career while he was competing. He HAD a lot of boxing skills. Tremendous boxing skills. But he was so gifted that he didn't have to use his all of his skillset in every fight. To say he had none is literally wrong, incorrect, and absurd. Nobody can dominate the amateurs. win gold medals in the Olympics (RJJ was famously robbed of his gold medal), and dominate the sport as pound for pound #1 for a decade plus WITHOUT boxing skills. So to answer initial question, RJJ had more boxing skills than FMJ but (try to wrap your heads around this guys) RJJ was SOOOOO talented and gifted he didn't have to use his boxing skills to win fights, he could use his athletic skills. But in fights where he had to use more skills, he did.

Floyd on the other hand has more boxing skills than physical skills or as I like to call intangibles or X-Factors.
No he didn't.

After RJ dropped down from HW he clearly wasn't the same fighter physically. It's like he sped up his aging process & his punch resistance was never the same. Sure he still had some of his physical gifts & boxing skill but he wasn't "Roy" anymore. Floyd has never & won't ever have to deal with that

Yes, I was deeply saddened and borderline disgusted at how happy Roy was just to finish the fight. He had no concern about winning the fight. Tarver & Glen Johnson must've took a piece of dude's soul:mjcry:

Floyd's body would not allow that and if it could he had smart advisors.

His legacy was carefully crafted.

He definitely lost something. I just wish we could've seen how the 2nd Tarver fight plays out if he doesn't get KO'd early. Roy genuinely looked to be back to himself in that fight. He fought that fight like he fought the 2nd Montell Griffin fight, with reckless abandon. Montell caught him with a really good shot also, but Roy just walked right through it, he was on a mission that night. I think that's how he approached the 2nd Tarver fight.
