Above the fray.
Happy for Monty. Remember him from his playing days on the Knicks. They said he was a future coach back then.
Glad to see that he's established enough that he continues to land HC jobs.
Having said that, Isiah Thomas and Ben Wallace are not walking through that door.

Didn't he turn them down before they backed in the Brinks Truck?
Told Detroit and The Bucks he was taking the year off but Detroit not Bucks ever made a real offer. The owner told the gm and everybody why not try Monty and sent the private jet to bring him to the owner house. They made him an offer with security in mind being that it’s a 6-8 year deal if he turns things around. All our best young players will be 25,27,28 when his deal ends

No one else was looking for Monty for a coaching gig so Detroit outbidded themselves :mjlol:

Salute for finessing billionaires but will instantly become the next Marc Jackson, Dwayne Casey, and Tony Dungy when they are tired of not getting over the hump and would want a wm to do it for them after the black man did the hard work of building that roster and installing a winning culture

Bucks definitely wanted him but with giannis in his prime and an older roster they didn’t have the time or energy to overly pursuit. Best reporter says the bucks and pistons were his favorites but he was considering a year off.

They have cap space, picks and young talent. If they’re still in bottom half of the lottery next year, then they have major issues on their hands.
This team even if they add a good young player at five, spend all their cap on this mediocre free agency and grab a Grant or Cam Johnson + a shooter isn’t jumping to the play in and shouldn’t be expected to. That’s maybe 30 wins unless Cade + Ivey are already in that borderline all Star territory immediately which is possibly but given Cade took the year off for surgery shouldn’t be put all on their shoulders. Plus going from Casey slow monotony of an offense to potential a .5 one in Monty will have a learning curve. Detroit is definitely on a great track and should be excited to see Monty and the kids keep growing.

Wouldn’t be shocked if Troy Weaver finessed another lotto pick for a cap dump from one of these teams again like we did getting Duren essentially for giving up Jerami and taking Kemba terrible deal.

They were getting no interest from premier coaches and had to back up the truck. Simple as that. The pistons franchise stays struggling to recruit talent sadly.
Pistons got Casey a year after a coach of the year search and Stan Van Gundy to turn down Golden State for them. The last three head coaches all were highly sought after.

Getting Monty, having Troy, already having Cade/Ivey/Duren and all of these names being locked in for the next 4-6 years should mean even more gradual growth unless they somehow get a Booker/all star caliber player to come to the city. Tbh they should roll their cap space over one more year and swing at a much better class next off season. Unless they are hell bent on bringing Jerami Grant back, signing Cam Johnson who is younger, or something like that they shouldn’t feel like they have to rush shyt UNLESS Cade comes back looking like the 24/7/7 guy he was looking like before he got hurt

He did kind of turned around the Suns...although there were other factors at play. I don't think he's worth it but it is what it is.
