Some other thoughts and quibbles

Caste System
- At no point did I think this was about the caste system. Korey @ double toasted mentioned it, but it was basically anti-Modi (whose party might be on some caste system) - but caste critique is not part of the film. Capitalism critique? All day. Stop killing Muslims? All Day. Traditional Trans People (Hijras) are people? All day. Brahmins vs Dalits? Nope.
Lame Leg Shorty - when did they become homies? They never seemed friendly, unless I missed it. I never thought that they were, he was just a pawn that Dev used.
Monkey Style Kung Fu - None. Just straight up boxing.
Solidarity with the Prostitute - They seemed to know each other when they first cross eyes. Maybe it was "game recognize game", but he was getting kinda tight about her doing her job.
His fight on the bar - Your boy is slow, and everything looked telegraph/rehearsed.
Fireworks my dude? - Really?
The Safe - Thought the safe in ol girls office was gonna come into play.
Office Lady - She had a dirty mouth. My cinema was empty, but I'm guessing she woulda been hilarious in a full theater.
Brothels - Low and High End....and random dude just taking an axe to the face/neck
The Axe - Was Dev playing with our expectations. I kept waiting for the axe to break his hand cuffs, cause that's the typical move in these spots.
Enter The Dragon - I liked the homages. I felt like The Raid and every single Korean Hallway fight got a shout out.

There were 29 minutes of trailers at my AMC. Absurd.

The action was really well filmed. Nice and violent film. Some corny first time director scenes but overall an impressive debut. Nothing you haven't seen before though. 7/10

Easily an 8.5/10 for me. My only problem is some of b roll used was film at a noticable lower resolution or out of focus. It seems like some of beginning got edited out with the supporting character. Which is a shame.

I know they filmed a lot of it on gopros and iPhones because their main camera broke. Dev broke his hand and foot. Called a cursed production.

I had a feeling a lot of theme and cultural undertones would just not translate or resonate to American audiences. Oh boy... It doesn't.

Dev was absolutely phenomenal and continue to build his resume.

Saw it tonight with a southeast Asian lady friend so she was able to fill in some things for me.

I liked it. Bit heavy handed with the allusions to the child hood story and his moms teaching but entertaining none the less

This was dope I give it a b plus. Trailer makes it look like a John wick knockoff but it’s deeper than that. It was cool in theaters I would def at least stream it tho especially if you like revenge movies.

I really liked this movie but I went into it pretty blind aside from seeing the commercials with Dev Patel fighting so I was a bit perplexed for a good chunk of the movie because dude was not a John Wick level ass-kicker for 90% of the movie until he got trained up by that temple of drag queen assassin monks.
That part came out of left field.
Also it felt like there was a romantic subplot between Dev's character and the escort chick that ended up left on the cutting room floor because nothing really seemed to come from their scenes despite it looking like they were building to something.

Movie was very solid to me like an 8/10. It could have been shaved down a bit in terms of editing and there times where the budget shows BUT The action was fantastic the fights were visceral and Dev Patel and the actors in general were fantastic.

Is this something I should watch in the theater or wait for streaming?

Theaters around me are already starting to have only one showing per day.

I know why though. :mjpls:
