If anything that actually contributes to him being there. Eventually she will push him too far and he'll either just dip and start a new life away from her or he'll kill her, go to jail, hang out with gang members on the inside and be set up when he's back on the streets with some work and an apartment other members live in.
He was lost to the streets the moment his parents decided "it doesn't matter that we can barely take care of ourselves. Let's have a child. We'll figure it out somehow
"Flash forward and this is what her improvising has brought her to. If that child is under 18 and this goes viral enough that someone at CPS sees it, she'll learn that "I was trying to keep him away from criminals" doesn't hold up in court.
