Son look at the tracklist...Life We Chose sound commercial?..Some Of Us Have Angels?..Project Windows?..Come Get Me?..Shoot Em Up?..Last Words?..Family?..God Love Us?..New World?..The Outcome?..only Nastradamus...You Owe Me..and maybe Big Girl sound commercial...everything else sounds kinda dark and moody to me...

I don't think a lot of people actually listened to Nastradamus... it was just too easy to hate it, actual listening isn't required for most people after popular opinion rises.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
:snoop::snoop::snoop::snoop:
this is why I hate to have these type of debates because nikkaz skim through skip through post and read what they want to read & ignore what they want to ignore -i originally said (DMX was a dope artist) this but in my humble opinion he's not an complete mc
he's basically a one dimensional mc he has one flow one cadence etc. etc. basically that hard-core passionate aggressive tone while the lox are more diverse and versatile
now obviously DMX became a superstar while the lox became a solid group... but at the end the day the diverse versatile artist will usually have a long career span

finally i aint no new nikka imma old nikka
and i aint never ever ever heard nikkaz say X was some lyrical mc
nikka and u wrong...u literally gonna sit here and say X had one flow and one cadence and anyone who followed the nikka from the beginning knows that's false...this is why I asked if u just got into DMX by his third album or some shyt...cause that's when he started abandoning his cadence..started abandoning his storytelling ability and started abandoning his creativity for pure aggression...u ain't comparing X to some "lyrical miracle" emcees...u comparing the nikka to the Lox and Black Rob and Murda Mase...all street rappers for the most part....the fukk about Sheek is more lyrical than prime DMX?...how the fukk wasn't prime DMX a complete MC?..dude could battle...make tracks for women...storytelling tracks...deep tracks...street tracks...a performer...great Mic presence...he DID use different flows...to call prime DMX one dimensional shows u have NO IDEA what u talkin bout...anyone who was a fan of X from when he first got on would tell u this...all them nikkas u named would tell u u buggin...DMX EVENTUALLY became one dimensional...but he wasn't always like that...

Peep my earlier response re Dre. This is no disrespect to Dre at all, it's just a different type of talent. Dre's talent means more to me as a hip-hop fan/listener, but in terms of artist development Puff clearly got it.

Nope. Damn near everyone who blew with Dre was a sureshot. If you heard Em or 50 right before he signed them, you knew. The first time you heard Snoop, you knew. D.O:C was another sureshot, dude was cold as hell he just needed some good beats.
He couldn't do anything with Hittman, Bishop Lamont, Knocturnal, Last Emp, Rakim, Eve, etc. Couldn't get Game off the ground until they put him with G-Unit and 50 wrote some songs.
He has a different type of talent than Puff. Dre's a musical mastermind, but Puff really groomed talent for success.

50 didn't write songs for Game..50 gave Game some of his songs he was gonna keep for himself....and Game just threw his verses on em...

That's actually true AF, even the darker tracks on that album had a glitzed-out LAD vibe as though Puffy had exec'd, almost like he was forcing the whole thug poet thing and the music just wasn't good enough. A weaker version of an X album at the time. I definitely agree.
Wait, LAD and R2D are not dark now?

You must be kidding me.

50 gave him songs, whether he wrote them for him or he had them already. I know what you're saying but I don't think it matters in the context of my point re Puffy & Dre.

Puffy pre-94 > Puff Daddy post-97

The LAD 'glitzy' Puff I'm referring to would not have clicked with Nas anymore than say...a Dame Grease, and that's exactly who he worked with on that album and the results were pretty underwhelming. Certain production doesn't click with Nas, and that was one of the main criticisms of earlier commercial Nas (IWW, The Firm, I Am), because people messed with him almost for entirely different reasons than they did Biggie and DMX, due to Illmatic. That's my point. Puffy could not have exec'd Illmatic as it was, the outcome would've different (maybe dope af, and still classic, but different) and it's the best example of a perfect Nas record.

I see but Illmatic is an extreme example, it's hard to consider a situation in which an album that good could be replicated in a different situation.
Biggies two first album had Easy Mo Bee, Finesse, Havoc, Rza, Prem.. I could definitely see a classic album from Nas with those dudes from that era.
He probably couldn't do it on some of the beats like Juicy, Hypnotize and Big Poppa or whatever but if Nas made it known that he was gunning for a 5 mic album Puff probably wouldn't force him.

Partially c/s,

Imo X was a super volatile rapper, his peaks was as good as anyones but most of the times he wasn't hitting those peaks and he wasn't very good at putting together albums, his 3 first albums are all solid 3.5-4 mics nothing more.

Man get the fukk outta here..u talk all this bullshyt and then turn around and big up mediocre ass Kanye West as a rapper...DMX>>>>>>>>>>>>>Kanye West emcee wise...and to call IDAHIH a 3 Mic album is some bullshyt fukk outta here...I'm tired of u nikkas on this site revising history...DMX got LOVE...MORE love than Jay Z on his own tour...to answer @kingofnyc 's question...the reason he ain't in those top list is cause of his fall off...and the fact that the media spent over 13 years tryna paint him as an unstable crackhead..which is his fault as well..but when shyt like that happens...people forget..simple as that...and there's plenty of lyrical rappers who ain't in a greatest emcee list anyway so that's a dumb argument...

A lot of people got love, 50 cent is one of the most loved rappers ever if not the most loved around grodt does that make him the best?
Ja Rule got love, Nelly got love moved damn near 17 million records in 3 years, Cash Money/No Limit were humongous and on . I don't give two fukks about the hype, sorry.

And I don't know or care about what mc wise means anymore, It's cool to see who can kill who on a verse or who can spit but if your music ain't John Blaze, what does that really mean. Make good music, that's it. It's the equivalent to having a great voice, which would imply that Mariah Carey & Beyonce >> D'Angelo :mjlol:.

Dmx peak verses >> Kanye's obviously, Kanye's music is still nicer.

& I didn't call anything a 3 mic album a said sold 3.5-4.
