The original White Lines with no hook and deeper bass....This was the highlight of that Clue tape. First time I heard this I had me like :gladbron:

When the bootleg dropped I notice they switched it up.

Yeah this is a good find. I like the deeper bass but I do think I prefer the final version with the intro and the Hav hook.

Here's some fun Mobb trivia (@old boy you might dig this)...Havoc was asked if there was any beat he could go back and re-work, and he said Quiet Storm was easily his top choice. He said he never thought he got the bass quite the way he wanted it, and that he'd tweak the drums a little bit if he could go back. Also, Quiet Storm was the inspiration for Got It Twisted. Alc liked that Hav took an 80's sample like White Lines
and flipped it into something sinister that was also catchy and could make it on the radio. He wanted to make a joint for them that could be a single, and Prodigy's nickname was Science, so he took another 80's sample (She Blinded Me With Science) and also went for the same "turn it into something sinister but catchy" sound. I mean there's no question that Quiet Storm is a better song but I always thought that was a cool story.

ALC paying homage to the master :wow:

I had the version you posted as well but that was a couple months later as I recall.

Okay, so I think the order of the leaks was like this...reviewer version, then the bootleg, then the retail.

Because I had the reviewer version first like you, and then the retail. It sounds like you had the reviewer version, then the bootleg (the OG final album they intended), and then after the bootleg leaked, they added It's Mine, Spread Love, Goin' Out, Can't fukk With, and the Quiet Storm Remix...

So the joints on the version they intended to release but ended up taking off were Gat Blow, Thrill Me, and the Al Green sample joint that goes by several names (fukkin' With, 3 the Hard Way, etc.) ??

See I didn't know Nobody Likes Me, and Pile Raps, and Perfect Plot were all cut from the album before they nailed down final version. :ohhh:

I think I'm with @stomachlines in thinking the bootleg version is the best by far.

We can discuss this in a few months when it's the HNIC 20th anniversary, but I wish Pile Raps and Basics had gone on there.

Yeah I was listening to it right after I posted it and noticed whoever posted this doesnt have Ps verse....I still have the tape 20 years later and mine does. My tape has a lil crinkle in the middle of Thrill Me cuz my toddler son at the time was ripping out the tape when i wasnt looking. So when Thrill Me wasn't on the retail I was pissed cuz the bootlegs weren't around anymore. Little did I know the internet would solve that problem years later. I had ran that tape into the ground so when the official version finally dropped I felt like hip hop was cheated....I get why they switched it up but that bootleg dominated my spring and summer.I felt like they shoulda just just put the Raekwon joint and the Nas joint (and maybe the Lil Kim remix) at the end of the bootleg version.
Interestingly enough, the version of your track list that I had didn’t have P’s verse on 3 the Hard Way.

His didn’t either. I listened the the entire YouTube link in the car earlier and the song goes off before P’s verse starts. When I got home I hopped on soulseek to find his same version, I did, and it also doesn’t have P’s verse.

we need that proper album yall..

i remember when mike tyson came out to this when he fought orlin norris.

Mike timed that shyt perfectly so he entered the ring right when P’s verse started :prodigylol:
That Tyson Gear logo looked real familiar too :pdahell2: (I know it’s the NYCHA logo)
Heard P stepped to Mike about it and Mike backed down :pdahellclean:

Shouldn’t be necessary but for the posters as dumb as I am :troll:

Claasic album. Never forget copping the tape from.Shantiniques. Made my cousins Mobb Deeo diehards after banging that album and HNIC all 99/2000.

I don’t think I heard P’s verse until Infamous Archives.

Interesting. Just out of curiosity was it the first one that you heard? And do you like the retail or the bootleg?
Yeah I heard the retail when it came out, years later I started digging into their entire discography and checked the bootleg MM cuts on YT. Only started REALLY bumpin' rap in 97/98 as a youngin

Yo The hype I had waiting for this album was nuts. I gotta admit, first listen I was disappointed cuz it wasnt HOE or Infamous. Nevertheless with time I came to love it and now regard it as classic. But it still is a notch below the first 2. Never liked the Rae song.

Funny, being a broke teenage fukk, me and my buddy decided each one of us would buy a different tape and lend em to each other so we can make copies. I forget what other album we decided on, but in the end we both ended up buying MM :pachaha:
