Yeah - my theory is it didn't have the one classic, undeniable single to push it over the top. The Source review actually comes out and says this. No song as good as Shook Ones Pt 2, but they somehow managed to get better since the Infamous.
That's a good theory.

Also I like that it's their most self contained album out of their top 3. Infamous had Q-Tip production, and Murda Muzik had Alchemist production. Even Juvenile Hell had other producers and definitely their post Murda Muzik albums started adding way more additional producers. I think hell on Earth is the only album they've done that's all Havoc beats. He was on some shyt because Last Day and The Promise sound like they'd fit right at home on there. That one era of Havoc beats he's never really done before or since. This is maybe the closest he got.

Maybe The Infamous was just so unlike anything before that Hell on Earth wasn't as game changing? Good question. I think Infamous had more 10/10 songs, but every song on HOE is like a 9 at the very least.

No way someone is going to try and tell me that the infamous is better than this album.
I think ppl will tell you it's better because no one had heard anything like it before, and maybe it was more groundbreaking. And songs like Shook Ones Pt. II or Eye for an Eye, Temperature's Rising, or Survival of the Fittest are like absolute perfect hip-hop.

But at the same time Mobb Deep is my favorite group of all time and I argue that HOE is a more consistent album in some ways, because the tone never changes, and Havoc and P both stepped up their games from the beat side and rhyming side respectively.

While we talking bout gems round this time we can't forget about this jewel

And it makes sense in regards to the LA LA/Live nikka Rap connection cause he did mention NORE in the verse (Got word back from Noreaga)

And if it's true what Prodigy says I can def hear Noyd on this

Im so glad this thread is doing the numbers it deserves.

Golden era for hip hop and it solidified Mobb as all time greats.

I remember having a hard time getting into it and didnt give it the respect it deserved. I revisited it a few months later and was hooked. Relatively speaking its an underrated album and one the last real efforts to maintain that gritty NY sound.

5 mic classic in my opinion.

I'll post openly since the samples are already cleared (I think?). They've been known for a while so with that estate being how they are I can't imagine they aren't aware or haven't gotten a cut yet. But I'll delete the post and PM them to you If someone messages me that these aren't cleared (I figured everyone knew, but don't have a copy of the liner notes in me).
