I think both of them were phenoms and known in countries i can't even pronounce. I don't no who is more famous, but i think they are probaby as close to equally being well known as can be. I'm pretty sure if you ask the average person if they no one, they'll probably know the other.

:snoop: Are u serious ? Or u dont know what the fukk u talk about?

In Europe, Boxing is non existant. No one cared about Mike Tyson there, only hardcore boxing fans. On the other hand, MJ was loved and followed like a God.
Plus , basketball is the 2nd most popular sport in europe, beside soccer.
Boxing is behind Soccer, behind basketball, behind volleyball, behind Formula 1, behind even Water Polo.
Stop the fukking nonsense

The bolded is bullshyt. Tell that to the thousands of Ricky Hatton fans from Britain that "invaded" Las Vegas for the Mayweather-Hatton fight. Or all of the fans in Wales and that region that were die hards for Joe Calzaghe. Even in present day you got guys like Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler selling out stadiums in their respective countries.

Boxing has always been a global sport

has it been bigger than basketball?

Pre Barcelona Olympics you can make a case that boxing was a bigger sport over there than basketball. You had Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Michael Watson, Herol Graham, Steve Collins, etc all having massive fanbases overseas and being very popular in that 80's-90's

I was only born in 1990 so I cant speak on it all too well but somebody is totally welcomed to speak more on it if they have the knowledge

ok, i respect ur opinion, classy post.
i was born in 1986, Mike Tyson's popularity to the casual sports fan rose in 96 with the Evander Holyfield fight/incident , im talkin about the casual fan in europe. hardcore sports fans knew him before.
At the time, basketball was the 2nd most popular sport behind soccer, every 2 summers especially, all the europe was buzzin about the eurobasket in a way bigger way, than they do now (which is pretty big still)
Thats just my opinion, and thats what i lived here.
Jordan was an icon, my grandma knew his name and she never watched tv.

Tyson is beloved to this day, a sports icon just like MJ and his legacy will last forever too.

Tyson was pure entertainment for damn near 2 decades.
