You know what? I am gonna pass, as many have stated, the first one was classic and subsequent sequels were mediocre in comparison to the first.

It was good to see Keanu and LB back together in John Wick 2, but I won't let nostalgia blind me to the fact that a Matrix rebuild would go over the heads of many of the ADHD audiences of today...

This could work, but they'd HAVE to stay away from all that well known matrix imagery and even the sounds of the film. They'd also need to dial back on religious philology a lot. Keep it as tech based as possible. Incorporating Martial arts is fine, but no wire work.

It should be like a cross between Dr Strange and Watchdogs.

It’s actually quite surprising that it’s taken so long for Warner Bros. to do this, but it seems as if the studio is finally ready to revisit one of their most successful franchises of all-time: The Matrix.

Deadline reports that they’re in the “exploratory phase” of possibly putting together another film, trying to see if there’s still “more life” left in the series. No word on if any of the original cast would return, but The Hollywood Reporter claims that Michael B. Jordan is being eyed to star if this thing gets off the ground. They also mention that at this point, the Wachowskis don’t seem to be involved.

Right now, the plan is for Zak Penn to write a treatment as Warner Bros. puts together a writer’s room (the new trend in Hollywood these days) in hopes of figuring out “the best possible way to relaunch the franchise.” It makes perfect sense that they’re doing this, too, given that the trilogy grossed $1.8 billion worldwide and the first film is widely considered to be one of the greatest action movies of all-time, not to mention also one of the most influential. It was a complete game changer and still holds up to this day.

Despite the fact that the third instalment was by far the worst, ending off the franchise on a sour note, there’s definitely still more that the studio can do with The Matrix and we’ve no doubt that audiences would be more than welcome to a revival with the right team in place to bring it to life. Of course, it’d be easy for Warner Bros. to just go for a shameless cash-in here, but we’ve got a feeling that if they really are going to do this, they’re going to do it right. At least, we sure hope that’s the case.

Tell us, do you think The Matrix should be brought back? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place!

I hope this ain't true

Michael B. Jordan is a horrible actor

He uses the same attitude and character in every movie he's in

No Thanks!

Chadwick Boseman on the other hand though would be more interesting to see :ehh:

no life left in this franchise. not only did the sequels ruin it but half the thrill and excitement of that first movie came from not knowing what the matrix was and following neo down the rabbit hole.

only way I can conceive them making even a semi decent sequel is to focus on an entirely new character and their own unique journey into the matrix. maybe with small references to the other movies but that's it.

Exactly. I try as hard as I can to forget I saw the sequels, the thing that made the first one great was that mystery. Turned into any other action/SF movie after.

And Hollywood really need to stop the prequel/sequel/reboot/remake thing. Don't nobody have new ideas any more?
