gameplay is actually legit

then they took the worst parts of FE3H and jammed Borderlands 3-tier writing and rapid-fire quips into it

All I needed to hear. I'll consider copping mid or late next year when it's on sale. Borderlands 3 might be one of the first games with a narrative that I played front to back at low volume with podcasts from front to back on purpose.

i spent well over an hour trying to beat a hard mission today with spider-man, Nico, and magik. its amazing how sophisticated the battle system is, one little more can change the entire dynamic of the mission.

Those cloaking snipers are the worst

So is this a good game or not?

This game is fire to me :whew:

Combat is very unique and does a good job of forcing you to be tactical while still making you feel like you’re controlling a bunch of superheroes. I initially wrote this game off because of the cards aspect but it’s actually really good. You have to be mindful of your positioning and using angles for your attacks on the map, so it doesn’t feel like you’re just playing a card game with flashy animations, it’s more of a hybrid of turn-based combat where your moves each turn are determined by the small decks for each of the heroes you bring into battle. These decks are how you make your character builds

It’s got a crazy mix of super heroes and high tech mashed up against demons and magic. The dialog is on some Saturday morning cartoon shyt but it’s not THAT bad. After playing all weekend and getting fairly deep into the main story, I’d say it’s a dope game for strategy RPG fans

Yeah, i honestly think people are over exaggerating about the story/writing tbh

It starts out kind of cheesy and it doesn’t exactly turn into some deep compelling thing, but it’s what you would expect from a Marvel game that doesn’t focus on one character. I’d say its about as well written as your typical Marvel Ultimate Alliance game, its not offensive enough to be annoyed by it. I’ve even warmed up to Tony and Carol.

Also the cutscenes are really good.

But the combat? :banderas:

I’m actaully enjoying this more than x-com 2. I hope this becomes a series along side x-com

Can u skip this bullshyt? Game looks like a steam deck mvp gameplay wise :jbhmm:

You can skip cutscenes but i don’t really find it that bad. It’s pretty cheesy but in a very 90s comic book feel.

The moments never really last too long (Maybe two minutes) and they tend to lead to really strong bonuses and improvements to the gameplay loop.

I think the balancing of the social aspect and being a hero is one of those very under touched aspects of gaming.

Honestly, this would have been a perfect X-Men game.

I’m sure at some point this was pitched and developed as an x-men game, and somewhere along development they were told to go for avengers because of the market appeal for them or something. I said before this felt like x-men evolution, and it definitely feels like they could have based an entire game around Xavier and his school.

And the life sim stuff is pretty diverse. They are always introducing new ways to upgrade, new resources to manage, new side actives, its not like fire emblem where you’re esssentially doing the same 3 tasks the entire game. The resource management/life sim definitely feels more like classic x-com than persona or FE.

This game has a very addictive ‘one more try’ loop. You pick out a hard battle, if you’re playing on heroic 2 or 3 you really just want to try and get a perfect score and keep your team alive.

I actually like this version of Carol better than the MCU version. She’s more likable and down to Earth.

Her status as the heavy hitter of the team actually grounds her and feels earned. She can carry entire combat encounters and her status as the reliable powerhouse actually factors into her conversations.

I’m actually loving how much character they’re giving the lesser known characters. Nico, Magik, Robbie, and blade getting love makes me very happy.

Also, some of the conversations on the message board actually crack me up. Blade being the crotchety old grandpa does wonders for the group dynamics lmao
