I just feel like they pulled out all the rejected Richard Pryor and Jimmie "JJ" Walker scripts from the 70's and filmed them with Martin.

I assumed it was gonna be broadstroked over the top slapstick trash with a healthy dose of awkward slang and stereotypes thrown in.
I wasn't completely wrong but it far exceeded my expectations.
