Everybody was riding that 360 wave until around when MGS4 dropped. That was the beginning of the PS3's rise to back to the top. Xbox messed up when it lost it's identity mid generation trying to become an advanced version of the Wii with Kinect and a bunch of shovelware no one cared about.

PS3 came out a year after the 360 , there were a lot of people who weren’t going to buy a second console .....

If they had come out at the same time it would have been another Microsoft L

Point blank period

For the first three years of the ps3 life cycle the 360 outsold it. Sony started bundling the sells of the ps3 and ps2(which was still selling millions of consoles) together so the numbers didnt look as bad as they were.

There is actually no data to show how much the ps3 sold by itself because the total was combined with the ps2, which sold over 20 million during the ps3 life cycle.
