They have a problem now where the Series X is hard to come by whilst the Series S is abundant in stores whilst not selling because people don’t want them. They’re basically splitting resources to make two consoles where one is popular and the other is a failure.

Sony doesn’t have that problem because both their consoles are in high demand due to both being the same power. Microsoft need to ditch the Series S, admit it’s a failure and produce a Series X digital. It’s the only path for them for now before this season turns into another Sony bloodbath.

I think the bigger problem is the lack of demand the series s has yet devs still have allocate resources to program games to run on it. It’s almost like it exist for sole reason of being a headache at this point

They aren’t the only japanese gaming company that has pivoted. Console gaming is on the decline in japan outside of nintendo, Sonys way of staying competitive 26 years in the game and predicting market trends to still remain so dominate is feat. They’re scaling strategy is still very much similar to how its always been though
