…And it’s gonna be great for consumers”

Conversation about where the games industry is heading and why Sony is so shook:wow:

Long Video, the important part starts at 20:00

TLDR:

Console market is and has been shrinking for a long time.
Gamepass will do to consoles what Netflix did to movie theaters.
Easy access to games makes consoles less and less important.
Gamepass/Streaming/mobile will increase the reach of developers from hundreds of millions to billions.
Sony is holding on to the past and will eventually get run over

He's making the anti-competitive argument for them and @MeachTheMonster is agreeing with it. :russ:
That’s not “anti-competive”

it’s actually the opposite.

It fosters competition by offering more and better options to consumers.

You guys only have a sony stan perspective so you feel anything that puts sony at a disadvantage is “anti-competitive”

That’s now how the law works. These agencies exist to protect the consumer. And nothing but good comes out of this deal for the consumer.

You know... a better line to create this thread with would have been what Michael says just pass the 30 min mark which was "Sony is absolutely going to get their ass kicked and it's not bad for consumers"

Sounds awfully a lot like what this one guy been preaching about all these years :jbhmm:

I think that guy made a thread not too long ago about a motion to quash and that got bushed. Yet the motion was made to hide the details about Sonys dealings. Biggest news in the history of gaming when the info is released but that got bushed :wow:

So now we bushing your entire ecosystem :win:

The only thing M$ is doing is killing competition by being incompetent.
PS is largely pumping PS4 games on PS5. Doing it well.

M$ can't even hype up their new AA games on Game Pass. AND I Iike Vampire Suvivors. A LOT.

Gamepass will do to consoles what Netflix did to movie theaters.

The fact that you think this is a positive says fukking everything. Netflix is trash and thousands of people are losing their jobs because of Netflix and other subscription service's aim to produce 99% garbage and dump it on their services .

This guy can be right about a few things but the fact that he doesn't understand Sony is in a pivot from their traditional single player games to making more live service games and bought Bungie to help them do it says a lot.

The Bungie purchase wasn't a response to Activision it was a way for Sony to transition to their new focus on live service games.

The way he talks is more like he only has a surface level understand of gaming.

I think he's absolutely right about the traditional buy an expensive console buy expensive games for it model having its days numbered. Mobile gaming has far dwarfed console gaming because consoles just aren't as accessible.

In a world of billions you have about your 300-350 million people who will buy a console and more like 200ish million who will but one of those $500 ones and that's about it. Also these young kids growing up have no aversion to mobile.
