Bungie can’t “force” Sony to buy them. They could have walked away if exclusivity was important to them just like Microsoft did.

Literally the second part of that sentence is "or they wouldn't sell"

Sony is no different than Microsoft, why do you think Hellblade 2, Outerworlds 2, Elder Scrolls 6, etc. isn’t coming to playstaiton?

Still comes to PC, cloud, etc so more platforms overall.

And if exclusivity was important they wouldn’t have bought them. Microsoft was in talks with them and walked away because they wanted the multiplatform agreement.

What you’re saying is fundamentally wrong, if Sony was all about making games exclusive they wouldn’t have bought them. Not every company is bought for the same reasons

the best thing about Sony fighting this was that it put a huge spotlight on the current gaming market, which kind of safeguards other major publsihers from being bought by a platform holder. There is no way this happens again with the likes of EA, Take Two, Epic, etc.

The worst thing that could have happened is no pushback against the deal and it closing a year ago
Not really. ZeniMax got scrutinized and passed then right after Activision got scrutinized and seemed like it will pass. I think the reality is unless it creates a notable imbalance other mergers would still be allowed to pass. This merger was resisted in 2 places with the FTC and CMA. Neither really had a strong case against it and used talking points handed to them by Sony. The FTC got trounced and the CMA caved soon after. Pretty much the rest of the world looked at it and didn't see an issue.

This deal puts Xbox at a size where if they attempted to purchase one of those other publishers you listed it would be blocked anyway because in terms of revenue this will put them equal to or slightly ahead of PlayStation in size.

If anything going forward Microsoft would be more strategic and not purchase entire publishers but pull an Embracer / Square Enix and purchase development teams and IPs associated with them.

You’re literally saying the same thing as me, just longer and more scatterbrained

Well, I think there's more to the Bungie purchase than just them as publishing/development arm and are using them as the backbone for their GaaS.

Look at how they were able to stop ND/Factions because it didn't hit their standards.

Haven, and all the recent teams they acquired are seemingly all exclusive.

One doesn't make a rule

No shyt.

Literally the same thing Microsoft is doing, they bought 8 studios before zenimax and activision and all those games are exclusive to their platform and most of bethesda and activisions games will be as well

Microsoft is putting those games into more services besides their Xbox ecosystem. You have cloud Steam Epic Games Nvidia Shield.

Microsoft purchasing studios is wayy different than Sony. Activision being bought by Sony would of been bad for business because dont think for a second Sony would voluntarily put any of those titles on PC or other platforms.

Minecraft and all the spinoffs have been on PS/Switch. The rest goes to PC - their store or Steam day one. And are now available to NVIDIA and their steaming service. Along with xcloud on TVs, web browsers and phones.

PlayStation is literally just PS5 and PC a year later.

There's an obvious difference in availability

They would have just like they are with Marathon because financially it makes sense. Microsoft wasn’t going to cut 60% of COD’s active user base off for gamepass subs, im not sure why yall are acting like this was a move of altruism. Its just makes them the most money

Minecraft sells 10x’s as much on nitnendo then it does on Xbox. Xbox is probably the least played platform for the game, like I said it makes business sense to keep it everywhere, until it doesn’t.

If Microsoft had the type of marketshare nintendo and sony did, they’d make the same moves

True, but they are still better, because they are coming to PC day 1. Sony would make that year 3 or 4 for pc.
