the best thing about Sony fighting this was that it put a huge spotlight on the current gaming market, which kind of safeguards other major publsihers from being bought by a platform holder. There is no way this happens again with the likes of EA, Take Two, Epic, etc.

Exactly. Playstation had everything to win from resisting the merger and nothing to lose.
Lets take away marketing deals and exclusivity contracts with third parties entirely and lets see afterwards how much Sony stans will keep talking about unfair business practices. Ya'll so disingenuous it hurts.

There's always an exception. Sony is known for pulling games off other platforms when they acquire studios.

They were forced by Bungie to stay independent or they wouldn't sell.
Weirdo with the cussing. If you paid attention to this entire debacle you will see that Sony made 300 million plus a year from the COD exclusive marketing rights.
That 300 million plus is now gone from Sony business statements and he was so in his feeling that the merger would be blocked, that he declined to reup with Kontick.
So how did Sony win???

Bungie can’t “force” Sony to buy them. They could have walked away if exclusivity was important to them just like Microsoft did.
