Thought I was in tlr
I think I'm gonna start kicking it around these parts.
Sadly my mother is the same way.... she makes a funny face when she goes in my basement and reads all the book titles.Tried to get my mother to read the book(I own it) but she is a lost cause...one of "those" women...I'm sure if Steve Harvey told her to read it on his wack show she would do it...
But my point is this....isn't it ironic all these Black women with sons....talk about racism and defending their sons but when it comes to learning about hard things their neighbor's Black sons are going through or even simply reading a book that would give them knowledge about a travesty taking place in society...they can act like animals in supermarkets but can't do something simple like read a book like this or watch interviews by Michelle

Thats damn near our entire community
Ignore every one older than 16 years old.I agree.
How do you think we can change this?

Loved her book...Will reread it again, after I finish the current book I'm on now.
She's a beautiful and intelligent woman (the 2 qualities I love most) who needs more voices to back her b/c what she's saying is so true. Like a poster said, we need personal responsibility but this is a subject that needs light as well, because the disproportion in the rates bw white and black is more than just about "personal responsibility"
have you seen this documentary?I sent my one and only copy to a family friend down in Jamaica...an aunt to one of my cousins told her he is someone who is always talking about mass incarceration and the issues discussed in the book so I decided to just sacrifice and let someone else get the nourishment of knowledge from the book...i can always get another copy..
currently im reading "King Leopold's Ghost"....any more suggestions of what to read?
back to michelle though she is active alot on her facebook page discussing this also and getting the message out to people....i remember a post she made months ago of thinking about discussing the military industrial complex more and how her eyes were open because she was primarily just thinking of mass incarceration...that may or may not have been a hint that she was thinking of writing a book on the military aspect
