call me naive but I truly was surprised when she brought up the points in Chapter 2(still in the middle of reading the book though) about the sheer power prosecutors have and how they are the most powerful in the criminal justice system even more so than the judges......
The judge sentenced that 18 year old(think his name was Edward Clark or something) to 4 years because he believed their was racial bias involved in his arrest, and he served his term and was released.....
But at some point the prosecutor had asked a court to review it and they found that the judge's decision to give a lower sentence than normal(for crack offenders) because he believed their was racial bias was not even close....
Then they rearrested him and made him serve a 10 year term now that he was married and had kids
