threads like these are the proof why nba's marketing strategy worked out 100% perfectly. You tune in any basketball talk show and whenever there is discussion about greatest basketball player ever the talk show hosts get into emotional feelings defending MJ very same second like it's a no brainer. Every time some former player or some other figure mentions other nba legends in the goat discussion they get looked in a weird way like wtf are they talking about.

The thing is, the goat discussions have to keep on going, someone like bill russell won almost twice as many rings as MJ, he dominated the era with his team more than MJ did in the 90s. Those are valid cases in the discussion, however I don't believe bill russell is a better player (because of his offense), but its ignorant to shut down any discussion as far as who the greatest by simply saying the margin between 1st and 2nd place is that huge. Not its not, the guys like bill, kareem, magic, have to be in the discussion, and if bron wins another ring he has to be there as well.

NBA was hyping MJ since day one, before him winning championship they were already calling him greatest player ever. This is when nba made the push for international audience, after the end of lakers, celtics, pistons era they turned the league into adventures of Michael Jordan and the little bad guys that would challenge him and eventually lose to him like in a good fairytale story. He was the most marketed athlete ever.

He just like any superstar champion won his rings by playing with the best supporting cast in the league, yet you would hear bunch of fans saying that MJ was basically winning it all alone. He never beat the stronger team in the finals because his team was always the strongest and best built team in the league. And no jazz were not better than bulls, never.
