I honestly have no idea. I heard altitude is the reason for Kenya/Ethiopia but Somalia is pretty flat and we have pretty good long distance runners. Also plenty of people train at altitude but still can't excel. I'm thinking it has to do with our typical body shape that is pretty light with long legs. Can't say it definitively but thats just a guess.

but the argument many of you all are making is that its something thats natural to a certain race.
If you put 100,000 Anglo-Saxons in Kenya for 500 years or so, and have them only mate with those Anglo-Saxons and their off spring, they would have the same genetic adaption.

I agree with you about the 500 years deal of almost any kind. Maybe it would take more than 500 years, but if any race had the history of living in those conditions they would adapt probably the same way, for the most part.

but yeah, its not genetics in the way many idiots in this thread are making it out as. If those Kenyans were shipped out and placed into middle Europe for many of years, they would adapt to those environments and probably lose the long distance running abilities.
