Menace To Society is a better movie than Boyz N The Hood

I think Menace stretched it a bit from time to time. It had the mentality and ideas right but sometimes it felt "empty", especially with the second girl thing.

I think Boyz was a realer flick. It's dialogue driven story was perfect imo for the idea it was trying to convey.

yea the girl situation should of been clarified more, boys had a better script and better actors

*sigh* Somebody says this everytime Menace comes up.

Again, as a young man coming up in that locale at that time, those "cariactures" of people portrayed are true to life. We knew (and some of us were) people like Caine, O-Dog, A-Wax, Felicia, Stacey, Sharif, Ronnie, Pernell and Chauncey. We have seen situations like the ones they were in.

And that's why I won't knock BITH, because your second paragraph is true. Still, sometimes (hell - a lot of times) there is no Furious Styles.

I agree with you about that, I know/knew all those types, but I feel like it was written from the perspective of people who visited the hood in the summer or some shyt. That's just me, but I still like the movie but I think Boyz, New Jersey Drive and even Colors were better movies. Not to mention Menace had a rather weak second prior to the very dope ending, which is my favorite part of Menace.

I completely disagree. Menace II Society is a hood movie made from the perspective of guys who quite frankly didn't come from the hood. They saw the hood as this ruthless, animal that ate anyone who happened to walk through it's streets. Even in the worst hood, if you were from there you weren't in that level of danger ever and this coming from someone who came up in the crack era in Newark, NJ.

:heh::whoa:
Menace was about as real as it gets. That liquor store scene was some real life shyt, any moment anything can happen. Like the other poster said, if you came from that then most likely you knew the Caines and O-dogs. Boyz Nthe Hood had some great elements but it was a pure Hollywood drama, while Menace was real as fukk. The Watts environment, the dice games, hood mentality/elements, the punk ass Chaunceys, the driveby. And this is coming from someone that grew up in the crack era Compton CA.

The ending of menace always bothered me, how they know where jada lived?

Cain was hoping from one house to another after Chauncey sent in the tape

I always assumed Chauncey put word out on the street that Caine was probably at Ronnie's house.

Menace, easily. The ending was the logical ending to everything that had lead to that point. And just for the quotables. I can watch the scene where Cain robs the guy in the drive-thru at least once a week. "nikka, I said with cheese!"

haven't watched it in a while, but i dont think they live very far apart. a few blocks at most and it had been a few weeks so they probably had time to find out who Caine was & where his main girl lived. the guys in Boyz were driving around for hours to find Ricky's killers, i don't think it's far fetched to assume Ilena's cuz & his boys did the same to find Caine.

BITH is my muhfukkin movie, but I ain't mad at OP. What speaks to you is what speaks to you :yeshrug:

I'm more in tune with the struggles of Dough and Tre, where as MIIS is about that life and tryna be in it, rather than escape it. At least that's how I look at it.

While both movies are classic. Menace To Society ripped my soul apart.

The Hughes Bros. portrayal of South Central made you feel the pride and despair of growing up there

Just when you thought Caine was getting out. :bustback::noah::to:

Fight. Fight. :ohlawd:

menace i used to like better. now its seems a lil dated and corny. more for teenagers than grownups. while boys in the hood i enjoy just as much now as i did when it came out.

alot of old 90's movies are starting to seem a lil dated and corny with the acting. i used to think sandlot was that shyt but now. :smh: however stand by me which i liked at the same age still seems just as good.
