Menace To Society has aged a lot better than Boyz N The Hood has. I think Boyz N The Hood captured a certain era and time really good but now it seems rather bland. Menace To Society as a movie plays out a lot better than Boyz N The Hood although I think Boyz N The Hood does still have a good story to it. But overall, Menace makes for a much better movie.

I gotta disagree. IMO Menace To Society is poorly written; the internal dialogue of the main character just sounds so cheesy to me. I'm not denying it's a decent movie, it just feels so generic at times...

Boyz N The Hood is a great film on all levels though. The only thing that hasn't aged well is the cheesy ass original score, thanks to those saxophones lmao. You can tell Menace To Society and subsequent films were trying their hardest to replicate Boyz N The Hood, and it rarely worked as effectively.

MTS had its moments,
Overall BITH is better in every way.
Caine stealing wheels and riding through the park on a sunday to a BBQ blasting Computer Love>>>>>>>>Bloods deep in a car pulling out a Shoddy blasting Issac Hayes and scaring Tre sh!tless.

I enjoy the acting much more in Menace than I do in Boyz N The Hood. The acting in Menace seems much more realistic and relatable at times, almost like it's not even a movie. The narration of the main character is neither here nor there to me, it's ok in my opinion.

M2S feels more real and is grittier than Boyz.
Looking back at Boyz it is very episodic at times and a lot of what happens in the film is telegraphed in such heavy handed ways.
PLus I think the Hughes Brothers are better directors than Singleton.
Still love both movies though.

Yes imo. Why?

Because Menace was that real chit. With the fucced up, abrupt ending and all.

To me, Menace captured more of the mindset of some (not all) teens today. Young, wild and don't care. Alot them don't have a "Styles" in their life, getting raised by grandparents, thinking robbing, car jacking is the only to get money. Prison life. It's no different in 2012. Plus, O-Dog is a legend in hood movies. Only one who can compare is Bishop.
