You don't really need to tell people to boycott marriage in the 'developed world', they are doing it on their own already. That fact, along with an increasingly elderly population and low birth rate, scares the shyt out of the government of countries like Japan, Germany, South Korea, and Sweden.

People don't know that Europe and Japan are already suffering a population crisis on their native citizens that refuse to have kids down to skyrocketing cost of living, on top of people wanting to party much later in life.

I think the most important thing is to be married in consciousness. If you decide to get a marriage license that is up to you. However, depending on where you live if you live together long enough you will me considered to be in a common law marriage and still be subject to the same "down sides" as a "traditional" marriage. So if you care for that person you might was well do it on your own terms or refrain from having a live in partner/family.

h. A survey in 2011 found that 61% of unmarried men and 49% of women aged 18-34were not in any kind of romantic relationship, a rise of almost 10% from five years earlier. Another study found that a third of people under 30had never dated at all. (There are no figures for same-sex relationships.) Although there has long been a pragmatic separation of love and sex in Japan – a country mostly free of religious morals – sex fares no better. A survey earlier this year by the Japan Family Planning Association (JFPA) found that 45% of women aged 16-24 "were not interested in or despised sexual contact". More than a quarter of men felt the same way.
