The few times I'm able to stomach watching clips of WWE on YT I can say the Sami Zayn character comes off as poorly written, dull, bland, vanilla, whatever adjectives you wish to use. Conversely his NXT character seemed far better, but I didn't see him as as some ratings boosting mainstream attention getting character to me.
Rollins' character seems like he's trying his best to be the mainevent star of his backyard fed. The less said about Finn's mic skills or anything besides his look the better.
But, I think it was @mrken who said it true that the truly trash and worthless members of the roster aren't the well known indy guys but guys formed in and developed in developmental.

I think this is what people are trying to say. Sami doesn't have DB's natural charisma so he needs to be written extremely well. Him willfully getting his ass kicked by heels for months straight isn't helping him. Even DB made his losses memorable. Sami doesn't have that "it" so they definitely need to help him with angles and out of the ring segments.
