Can anyone say that hand on heart that they heard all 100 these albums from start to finish at least once? I counted around 80 that I can recall hearing, which thought was quite high. - However, that Mase joint being so high was perhaps the biggest surprise.

I now got a project for the rest of the summer!

I'd say a solid 60, I probably know pretty well and played a lot when they were released.
A good chunk, I haven't played since then. (but honeslty how often do I just put a record on and let it rock these days)

Out of the other 40 - I needled dropped most (I prolly own most of the wax tbh) - and might have played the singles for the audience, but really sat down and wrestled with? Nah.

I haven’t listened to the Stetsa album, the Whodini album, the Pop Smoke album, the Styles P album, King of Rock, All We Got Iz Us, the Lil Kim album, Mr Smith, Mantronix.

Kiss The Game Goodbye being on here at all :dead:

That album was 8 songs and a WRAP. And I bought it on release
I hate that Jada chased that hit song

Someone said to lock him in a studio with dusty records and beat makers and don’t let him out until he makes a classic

I think illmatic, ob4cl and the infamous are all more or less classic so order isnt an issue for me

Been seeing magazines and shyt give illmatic the top Spot for like 15 years now so the infamous as #1 is sort of refreshing to see

Illmatic is the apex of ny rap album to me but I'm not mad at infamous and ob4cl being above. illmatic should be top 3 at least tho

I have a problem with not only rd being lower than blueprint, but blueprint even being in the top 15. It's one of jay's best, but there's way more better and important album in ny. because of his status his materiel got overrated

and I prefer hoe to the infamous. enta da stage should be way higher. hardcore and ill nana too.

We not gonna downplay infamous and its impact to appease illmatic and OB4CL fans. I don’t agree with infamous being 1. But it’s easily a top 5 album.

It becomes extremely difficult when ranking albums like illmatic, low end theory, illmatic, 36 chambers and infamous. Each have their own claim for the spot.

But im glad mobb deep, especially Prodigy is finally getting their flowers. Prodigy been in my top 15 all time. And I have Mobb number 2 only behind tribe.

QB has 10 albums on the list. 10% of the albums. A single housing project. More albums than the Bronx.

Going through the releases from 79 to about 2002 on Wikipedia, I gotta say this list is pretty solid when it comes to important, influential, classic, popular in NY, type records. (which record does what is up to Don Jesus to specify)

Also, Wikipedia shows how much hip hop explodes over the years in terms of albums and geographical diversity, but also how unconnected album releases ares to the Billboard charts...

What I would add
  • Das Efx
  • Biz Markie
  • One of X-Clan/Brand Nubian/Puba - 91-92 - All that Black Power stuff was all over Flatbush and BK in general. Black Bart T-shirts, Leather African Pendants, etc. Something in addition to PE.
  • Beatnuts - either the EP or Street Level
  • Salt and Pepa/Mc Lyte (instead of either Kim or Foxy - who are basically the same archetype, imo)
  • Diamond D (swap with Lord Finesse) - 1st album
What I would take off
  • One of those Busta records
  • Internal Affairs and Stress Extinction Agenda
  • Lord Finesse
  • One of them Queensbridge Cats
  • One of the LL albums (he's got 4....but arguably Greatest of All Time...hmmm(c) Arsenio))
  • Gravediggaz (and sub in ODB for their record)
Records that stick out to me
  • All the DMX/Ruff Ryders/Lox Stuff - that's when I started to stop buying wax every Tuesday/getting my promos.
  • MF DOOM - Strictly for heads
  • Westside Gunn/Roc Marciano - throwback
  • Camp Lo - they got 1 song tbh. I mean you could throw Digable in here
  • Mos Def/Black Star - Did this really hit the people, the G's, or just the heads
  • Heavy D - one of the few "having fun" type records - though I think he's better known at this point for his moves behind the scenes.
    • No Kid N Play, Kwame, Rob Base, Biz (see above),
  • 2nd Onyx Album - Although I kinda know this was way more important in NYC than it was anywhere else. (might be the same with those QB records tbh)
