But number 87 in the NY top Mc's list...

You cant make this nonsense up
It makes sense. Basically, the importance and prestige of being KONY diminishes starting with 97. Not saying there weren’t years where you had bonafide legends going at each other for the crown after that, but by 2006 on, there really wasn’t a KONY. Max B winning just shows that it basically means nothing by that point. Whereas winning or being a contender in the 80s to mid 90s means you are an all time legend.

:mjlol: max b for any year is nasty work but two years back to back is insane. I actually rocked with his music back then but there’s no way in hell he was the king. Jim honestly has more of a claim to 06 than Cam imo. We Fly High was the biggest song out of NY that year and was up there with any rap song pretty much.

Hov had 00-01 :scusthov:

I’d give 02 to Nas :ahh:
50 had 03-07 :mjtf:

I can maybe see an argument for Hov in 07 and maybe Jim in 06 :ehh:

08-09 I guess it’s still 50 or Hov :ehh:

I’d actually say 07 and 09 Fab was in the running :ehh:

Jay was easily the king in 2009.

City didn’t give a shyt about OB4CL2. Max cultural relevance and influence was far greater.

Random Max mixtape cuts>>Cuban Linx 2

That year Jay is the king. 50, Kiss, and Fab also have top 10 first week sales. Some OG’s like Raekwon, Mos Def, Q-Tip, CNN, Fat Joe dropped but that’s not what the city was on at all. Max and French hottest shyt in the streets and the youth is getting lite and drill rapping on WeMobbinDVD’s. Huge disconnect.

Define culture

I went back to look at ‘08 and man. :merchant:

Its between Nas or 50 only.

Nas had the Ni****er Tape leading up to Untitled and 50 had the two mixtapes with the Unit leading up to TOS.

I would of gave 50 the edge if the singles for TOS were good but they were mid instead.

You can’t be King publicly and irrevocably losing the biggest battle in NY history.

Nas definitely took that crown in 02. Then Jay “retired” came back and took it back in 09
So then camron has 2002 because he beat Nas in their battle

He dropped his worst album right after that.. BP2. then retired.... then rode the Philly/Dipset wave to get hot again.
The lead single to the album after “ether” was the biggest song of his career at that point :russ:

Your personal opinion on BP2 is irrelevant in this discussion

Also You made a whole thread bout Drake’s singles flopping post not like us but then when it comes to Jay Z post Ether I wanna see the deflection :russ:
