It makes sense. Basically, the importance and prestige of being KONY diminishes starting with 97. Not saying there weren’t years where you had bonafide legends going at each other for the crown after that, but by 2006 on, there really wasn’t a KONY. Max B winning just shows that it basically means nothing by that point. Whereas winning or being a contender in the 80s to mid 90s means you are an all time legend. But number 87 in the NY top Mc's list...
You cant make this nonsense up
Jay was easily the king in 2009.
City didn’t give a shyt about OB4CL2. Max cultural relevance and influence was far greater.
Random Max mixtape cuts>>Cuban Linx 2
That year Jay is the king. 50, Kiss, and Fab also have top 10 first week sales. Some OG’s like Raekwon, Mos Def, Q-Tip, CNN, Fat Joe dropped but that’s not what the city was on at all. Max and French hottest shyt in the streets and the youth is getting lite and drill rapping on WeMobbinDVD’s. Huge disconnect.
2008 was such a horrible year
biggest album out NY that year was Untitled
2009 should've went to Jay
So then camron has 2002 because he beat Nas in their battleYou can’t be King publicly and irrevocably losing the biggest battle in NY history.
Nas definitely took that crown in 02. Then Jay “retired” came back and took it back in 09
Ether did not hurt Jay Z’s career in any wayThat shyt was far from even. It was Nas in a landslide and Jay lost that untouchable aura he had from 98-01, BP2 being horseshyt did nothing to help his cause either.
Ether did not hurt Jay Z’s career in any way
The lead single to the album after “ether” was the biggest song of his career at that pointHe dropped his worst album right after that.. BP2. then retired.... then rode the Philly/Dipset wave to get hot again.
That’s just like saying meek letting everybody know drake has ghostwriters didn’t hurt his career.. yeah sales wise it didn’t but from real hip hop fans it definitely didEther did not hurt Jay Z’s career in any way
