So Jay did pay Serchlite publishing
no. Jay made that shyt up breh. biggest hoax ever, but Jay was smart and using it to gaslight the PUBLIC, not Nas...because Nas knew the truth. there was no Serchlight Publishing until probably around 2013.
Serch signed Nas to a production deal and administered his publishing. Serch worked for another company that worked with Def Jam. He was clearing records for Rocafella. Jay got a good deal on the front end because of the connection. Zomba and Nas took 25% of the song. I am guessing here....but Nas should have taken 12.5% of that and Zomba got 11% and Serch got the other 1.5%.
Serchlight was a management company....later a promotion company, and later a publishing company. Again, Nas, Zomba and Lonnie Liston Smith own just as much as the song as Jay does.

sorry, I keep saying management company....it was a production deal. this is why Nas had to buy Serch out because Serch was basically doing nothing but being a middleman. He wasnt even doing the admin work, Nas' team was and he was just signing off on it. so think about that. If Nas bought out the production deal, why he didnt by the admin pub? if Nas didnt want that shyt 20 years ago, he dont want that shyt now.

I dont get in to that, I am pretty much impartial but the narrative of Nas getting jerked doesnt have too much validity behind it. Granddaddy I.U. was getting jerked.
and to those who are in here saying give it back to Nas, that doesnt make sense. Serch didnt steal it from Nas. think if a startup company comes to you to help them promote or need advising? they say, no problem, just give me 5% residuals for the rest of my life. you do a contract for this. you help the company become a success. you dont want your 5% anymore. would you give it back to the company? for free?
