Boxing is suppose to entertain. If you wanna avoid punches while you're body-to-body with your opponent then just try to keep his arms down; not keep the guy in a rear naked choke hold. :beli:

The bolded is only part of it. Boxers are in it to win. And to win by any means! If clinching was so bad then it would be banned in boxing matches like headbutting.

That's actually all of it. The only value boxing adds to society is as a form of entertainment. Winning is rewarded because 2 fighters both trying to win is the most entertaining way a sport works.

pernell will always be the GOAT, but floyd can have 2nd best. no shame in being behind whitaker. the way pernell could literally stand right in front of his opponents without moving his feet one inch and still not get touched was astonishing. you know you're insane when you make your opponents bust out laughing in embarrassment....he was leaving these dudes in complete amazement.

Even if his D isn't the best it is one of the greatest ever and along with that shoulder roll he is damn near unhittable. And it's crazy cause a lot of times he has his hands down and his head his just there for the taking but his reflexes and speed keeps him out of harms way. Cats always want to know why fighters don't throw many punches against him and it's cause that defense doesn't leave any openings and if you do throw a punches in bunches you are going to get countered all night.

Ali used to clinch all of the time.

Came in to say this. Dude was a pro at it!

People forget though. Floyd doesn't clinch much but he did more than usual against Manny, but that's what it takes. Boxers do what it takes to win and we as fans have to appreciate that. Some fights are epic but when there is a lot of skill on display it becomes a very technical fight rather than shyt loads of knock downs etc.

nikkas saying clinching isn't a part of boxing :mjlol:

Mayweather didn't even do it much... Klitschko was doing it every other punch last week and no one said shyt. All you here is how good Klitchko is when both them nikkas (the brothers) hold after every punch

And clinching is a part of boxing. They teach you how to use it to smother your opponents punches, put your weight on the guy to drain them, how to spin out or get out the clinch without getting punched in the face, how to control your opponents body/arms in the clinch, how to punch out, etc...

And that's JUST clinching. There's so much shyt in boxing that average nikkas don't know shyt about.. Manny didn't look like he knew that much more either.

sweet pea easily..

people hate Mayweather style.. I really dont tho. Its on the opponent to dictate the fight. Obviously they cant with Floyd.

And, this is coming from someone who wants to see May lose. I will never knock his ability tho.

Damn, no love for Wilfred Benitez? :what:

I'd have to go with Sweat Pea followed closely by PBF. Then Benitez

Benitez was nice. I think the L's he took kinda tarnished his status. But, he was nice.

He only took 2 Ls in his prime. And those were ATGs in Leonard and Hearns. After the Hearns fight he was a spent fighter. Plus his training habits and lifestyle went to complete shyt. Basically become a druggie and alcoholic.

In his prime though he's up there with the best of them, especially on the defensive tip
