It's gotten to the point to where it is truly an event and spectacle to watch him fight. I don't give a flying fukk really about him fighting Robert. Who else is in the ring with him is basically meaningless, I'm excited just to see Floyd in the ring. A lot of people are in the same boat that I find myself in.

yes and we call those ppl the casual fans ice lol...you're a floyd stan so you're the exception...but let's be serious there's no real excitement about this fight here.

why not, the fact he's not been so active is probably why he will be able to pull it off, plus who out there is really a threat to him, Pac-man is finished, fight with sergio will never happen, who in the next to years could really give him a tough fight,

Him NOT being active can affect him equally as someone who's got miles on the tank. Floyd's style depends of reflexes and speed, things that inevitably are going to leave him (and have slightly in recent years). He's in a predicament I believe he kinda put himself in to be honest. I think he let a lot of the meaningful fights during his prime kinda slide by and he's ok with fighting the Robert Guerrero's, Victor Ortiz's, or bit down the hill Cotto's of the world because he sees himself as a commodity and his fans who simply enjoy watching him will pay to just see him fight anybody. I'm not sure that turns into 1.4-1.5 Mill buys because you do need a dance partner, but overall that's audience he's gearing towards today, not general Boxing fans (anymore).

I can agree with you there, 147 is pretty weak now. It will be interesting to see where Floyd goes after this and if Canelo gets past Trout.

yea, i agree. but Mayweather is really only fighting Guerrero because he wants to defend/keep his WBC welter title? same case with Victor Ortiz, wasn't it?

he has a junior middleweight title anyway. i hope he at least fights Canelo next...if Canelo beats Trout.

If Trout vs Canelo goes the way I think, Mayweather's not going anywhere near Trout.

I don't like Floyd at 154, I never have. It seemingly takes him out of his comfort zone. He was 151 for Cotto and if memory serves me correctly, the same for Oscar. Trout will get to 168 after rehydration. Cotto was like that last year against Floyd, that's why that jab was getting through Floyd's defense at times. I have no fear whatsoever from Robert.

The night of the Cotto fight he apparently weighed in at 148lbs. If he actually put on more muscle I don't think it would benefit him. Cotto himself isn't a good size 154lber.

How so? What meaningful fights that HE let slide by during his prime?

I thought Mayweather was only fighting Guerrero because there was no one else to fight. Who was he supposed to fight? Pac? No, hes recovering. JMM, no, been there done that. Canelo? No, this fight is supposed to be a set up for that fight. Who else? Bradley? Nope. Who?

I think once he got to 140lbs it became the business decision solely over the competition/business model previous stars had prior to him (Leonard, De La Hoya, etc). He turned down a contract to fight Antonio Margarito for his highest payday of $8 Million in 2006 which also included a match up with Miguel Cotto the following year (which is when Cotto became a Welterweight). By the time Floyd had his semi retirement after the Hatton fight, the 147lb division looked like this:

1. Miguel Cotto
2. Antonio Margarito
3. Joshua Clottey
4. Paul Williams
5. Shane Mosley

It was the hotbed of Boxing for close to 2 years with the addition of Pacquiao the following year. All these guys fought one another during what was still in a sense Floyd's peak and he fights two of those 5 listed YEARS after they were premier match ups.

It may sound like I'm hating on Floyd (I think he's the best boxer on the planet) but in his later years he hasn't raised my eyebrows as far as his selection of opponents as opposed to fights with Corrales and Castillo that stylistically and competitively were dangerous fights and he overcame (well...except the 1st Castillo fight lol).

I don't think youre hating on Floyd, just dropping your opinion. Okay, let's remember the politics of boxing and that the first 3 of those opponents you listed are under Bob Arum, that alone speaks volumes. Floyd turned down Magarito not because of him ducking, but because of Arum and his decision to low ball Floyd with 8 million and him daring Floyd to go out and get a fight for more than that (which Floyd did vs. ODLH). Why should he have fought Margarito? So I understand why he didn't fight Margarito. That right there killed any business that Floyd would have with Arum and his stable of fighters (Cotto, Pac Man and Clottey) and which is why the fight vs. Pac Man was never made. Next, Shane said he didn't want to fight Mayweather because of a loose tooth and other reasons [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lc9Kd955co]Shane Mosley vs. Fernando Vargas 2 [5/5] - YouTube[/ame] start at 2:28 mark

Paul Williams? Can't blame Floyd either. Boxing is full of politics, so I can't blame certain fighters for not making fights happen.

yea canelos too young and inexperience. The fight at this point was supposed to be floyd vs amir khan, but khan kept losing and fukking it up.
