now with that said yeah it prob dont make sense to fight some tough fighter for cheap money... but when they did the 8 mil to may and may said naw ill make 8 mil plus 1 dollar to fight baldomir AND HIS EXCUSE WAS MARGS HAD TOO MANY LOSSES AND WAS A NOBODY... then years later he props up guys like ortiz and guerrero

...

That's already been covered. If he signed on to fight Margarito Arum wanted rights to Mayweather's next 2 or 3 fights. He also flat out said that he would not give Floyd the guaranteed money that Floyd was wanting for fighting Cotto and De La Hoya after which is the real reason Floyd didn't sign on for that fight. Arum just throws out the 8 million dollar number completely leaving out the future options that he wanted on Mayweather.

margs was welter champ since 2002... he beat all the supposed number 1 contenders or rising stars in that division... he was on hbo ... he was a more accomplished welter weight champion than oritz or guerrero combined... at the time lewis, citron etc were guys that ended up suckin but at that time they were pick em fights against two contenders... he didnt just get lucky in one fight and then want a title shot...

he had been a welter for more than 6 years.. he didnt have the luxury to cherry pick fights... he might not have been the BEST fighter in that division but he was one of the best... dlh was considered one of best and he wanted no parts of margs.. they had sparred together....

i dont know if you remember but when espn did ppv boxing one time he was co feature with mosley...(he fought citron 1 and mosley fought some other tune up) and mosley said nah im good im not ready for margs yet...

guys like vernon forrest were ducked just like margs pwill were... only reason you now could say that forrest is a great fighter is cause mosley gave him the chance... forrest couldve been EASLY FROZEN OUT OF THAT WW FOR MANY YEARS... you think dlh wanted any parts of forrest... hell no... then he blew with mayorga...

ppl wanna assume he was a slouch or a bum.. but his style of fighting was a tough out for any fighter... guys like cotto and pac have him the buisness and margs kept comming...

its like guys like clottey or p will never get their due to how much of a tough out or fight they are cause the top dogs in their division never wanted to really fight them...

p will and margs were forced to fight each other... and p will won but anybody who saw that fight knows it wasnt a blow out...

your right.. p will, clottey , margs were never lineal champs.. but to suddenly jus dismiss em as if they never exisited or were never part of that whole division is not accurate...

pwill and margs would kill baldomir... i would also say judah too...

now with that said yeah it prob dont make sense to fight some tough fighter for cheap money... but when they did the 8 mil to may and may said naw ill make 8 mil plus 1 dollar to fight baldomir AND HIS EXCUSE WAS MARGS HAD TOO MANY LOSSES AND WAS A NOBODY... then years later he props up guys like ortiz and guerrero

you dont think dlh couldve fought margs... BEEN MEXICO AGAINST MEXICO AND sold millions.. ESPEICALLY IN 2006 OR 2007... but dlh actually sparred with him before .. he wanted no parts of him..

quartey last fought at ww in like 2000 trinidad last 147 fight was with dlh in like 1999....

fact is when may moved up to welter he was going into divisions that were occupied by dlh , margs, mosleys of the world...

it woudlve been awesome to see 2007 margs v. may...

You make some excellent points and at times I have felt the same way. What I am saying is, you cant call it a legitimate duck. I have taken your same stance many times. Right now though you are explaining from a fan's perspective and I am explaining more on how they see it from a business aspect.

there are reasons why Margs never got into the mix...a lot had to do with his team and his promoter. Mayorga and Baldomir positioned themselves for the opportunities they received. I will never forget that Margarito and TR didnt want Mayorga when he was just WBA champ, they wanted to shortcut to Mosley/Forrest. You are taking a calculated risk by doing that because if you dont get the shot...which he didnt, then you will be frozen out even more. When Mayorga beat Forrest then Margs team were shouting as loud as they could for a shot at Mayorga. At that point, Mayorga dont need him.

The WBO title being lightly regarded is part of the reason. Also, he didnt beat anyone to get it...he picked it up after Santos vacated. Santos was the best fighter he ever faced at that point. He moved up and challenged Santos a couple of years later and lost that! Margs was a threat, but TR made him into the boogie man when he really wasnt.

PWill was deserving because his team wasnt afraid to put him in with anybody. TR was trying to milk Margs and that WBO title and they missed out on a lot by doing that. Clottey and guys like that were good but when they got their shot, you could see they werent the fighters they looked like against lesser opponents.

Its not that the fighters didnt exist, its that it didnt make as much financial sense to fight them and they never had a legitimate reason to say Floyd was ducking them. When Floyd signed to fight Gatti I was telling people he was ducking Vivian Harris because Harris was a legitimate threat. I was pissed I didnt get to see that fight. Vivian lost on Floyd's undercard though and that was it for that. As much as I felt he was one of the guys Floyd shouldve faced and wouldve beaten, it wasnt a legitimate duck because others brought more money to the table than Vivian....with less risk attached. Gatti was a much easier fight for a whole lot of money....why fight Vivian?

This "Guerrero is a bum" thing needs to stop though. Dude has 6 titles in 4 weight classes and can give a run to anyone else in the WW division except maybe Marquez. Floyd's just better period.

Guerrero would've have beat any fighter from 147 thru 154 not named Floyd on Saturday. He might not have the raw talent but he had the highest IQ anybody Floyd fought, he was hard down set on his strategy of trying to counter his right with those heavy thudding shots to the body and was smart enough not to smother his shots on the ropes, winning himself at least 3 rounds, he just kept eating them rights, and he couldnt get off because of Floyds inhuman strength for welter making sure he locked up one arm in close, while Floyd himself smothered and was moving/dipping Roberts shots with the other arm, something clearly Robert underestimated about Floyd

Robert should be commended for his heart will strategy and chin, but haters got slight him cause he aint beat Floyd now he aint shyt, a 4 division champ aint shyt. I guess JMM aint shyt because he lost every round vs Mayweather, at least Robert was smart enough and game enough to withstand that onslaught and win himself 3 rounds, the Ghost made me a fan Saturday

Floyd literally whooped on DLH and did it at DLH's weight 154.

Re watch the fight, DLH won 4 rounds MAX!!! That judge was a damn fool. And this method of throwing punches while fighting floyd is something easier said than done. He's never there to just land combinations cleanly without him countering you

Pretty.gif

that gif :ohlawd:

Oscar's problem is, he comes straight in without moving his head. Look at Floyd's head and look at Oscar. That's target practice.

Ghost is hardly a bum. Ghost is a good fighter who would give Canelo hell. If Canelo wants to push for a match....fight Ghost next. If he dispatches of him easier than Floyd....then even the general public will demand a standoff. That would never happen though. They would never match Ghost and Canelo with a Floyd fight looming. Ghost may not beat Canelo, but he would make him look so bad it would ruin the hype for a Mayweather fight.

You know damn well if Manny Pacqauio had fought Robert Guerrero he'd be crucified everywhere. This is no different. A well cherry picked fight for Floyd. Stop trying to turn shyt into gold.

pac got away with fighting joshua clottey and margarito and was praised for taking on "bigger guys" i dont wana hear that. guerrero is ranked in the top 3 at welter, the 2nd? marquez with floyd being number 1. there was already talk that myaweather wa ducking gurrero

the fact that i clicked the last page of this thread and were discussing a guy like margarito who clearly got caught cheating shows how desperate his detractors have come, holding onto headlines from 2006 when mayweather was "scared"

You really wrote this mumble mouthed essay whining about PBF not fighting a walking punching bag that was caught cheating? Margarita hasn't looked like shyt since he's been caught. He's been disgraced, his whole career is in question. This exposes you as a hater instead of a fan. It's good thing Margarita never got that fight. It would've been a damn shame if PBF had been damaged by a sucker using plaster in his gloves.

I really dont think he was loading his gloves back then. He really wasnt that feared as TR hyped it up to be. I watched him fight Santos at 154 and Santo hurt his ass bad and sent him right back down to 147.

I truly believe in my heart that Margs thought he was going to beat PW and he really wanted a Mayweather fight and when he lost to PW, his team decided to cheat.

Margarito was never known as a big puncher, yet in his next 3 fights....Golden Johnson was known for his durability, the first punch he got hit with it was over. Cintron gets KOed by one punch for the only time in his career. Then the disgraceful Cotto fight...where people knew Cotto never busted up like that before.

He was a cheat...and a willing, knowing, cheat. fukk u dont know your trainer is loading up your gloves? :what:

I just logged on to see if there is any serious convo in here about Canelo beating Floyd after last night's performance.

What Floyd does, its very difficult to see with the naked eye...even for people that know boxing. He is the most unconventional conventional fighter I have ever seen. He is so fundamentally sound but mixes fundamentals with a style that is not typical.

He does a lot of intricate things that make it hard to figure him out. Its so subtle that the opponent never notices it until he is way behind on the cards. Floyd is a great defensive fighter due to his foot speed and reflexes. He is hard to hit when leading against him and he wont let you cut the ring off. This is something anyone with eyes can see. What usually goes unnoticed is how his offensive tactics make him great. Based on his reflexes and speed, I wouldnt say Floyd is the best defensive fighter I have ever seen....no way is he as good as Whitaker in that regard. The difference between Floyd and Pernell is...on offense. Pernell was very conventional and he never had to really adapt to a fighter's style because he was so good naturally.

Floyd rarely throws combinations. I have had people tell me before I am crazy for saying that...but a combination in the conventional sense is 1-2-1 or 1-1-2. Not 1. 2. 2. Floyd doesnt string them together like that often and that is part of why his defense is so great. He creates little opportunities for counters by doing this.

This is why it takes more than speed to beat Floyd. Floyd stops guys from throwing and their combinations get weak because they are just trying to lay hands on him. A combination is useless if you cant set it up. No bag in the gym can emulate Floyd's movement and they certainly cant hit back.

I just dont see Canelo causing any problems. He is a much greener fighter than Ghost. Ghost can box and has good speed offensively. Defensively, his speed was exploited like everyone else. Plodding, no head movement, etc.

Canelo is not as good a boxer as Guerrero in my eyes. When Floyd starts pot-shoting and not hanging around for return, Canelo is gonna get the same thing. Head movement not good enough to escape lead rights and lefts and foot speed in conjunction with coordination not good enough to cut ring off.

Some fighters have the styles to beat FMJ but not the tools (footspeed, workrate, punching power, jab, etc.) and the fighters that have the tools dont have the skill or the style.

As frustrating as it is seeing Floyd match with a lot of opponents we feel dont pose a threat...you have to consider this. These fighters today are not as skilled as old school fighters because they are rushed to title shots. Floyd is one of the last true throwback fighters who has put style, skill, and physical ability together.

If Canelo faces Floyd this year...when he is NOT going through a long layoff...I see him getting beat really bad...almost to the point of embarrassment.

Great break down my dude.

Nothing more I can add to that.

Man I kept telling people the straight right would end the night for ghost. He stuck to his gameplan tho I'll give him that. Money may's defense was different than the usual less "elbows" and most def wasn't using too much of the Philly shell he was just legitimately getting out of the way of the shots or just being too elusive. Also I did notice Floyd didn't string combinations but would pause before he hit you with multiple shots sht was beautiful.

I do wanna see if Floyd can handle canelo's body shot especially in the clinch....but besides that I'm fairly certain Canelo would get shut down. Especially after the first 3-4 rounds he gets tired from trying to rush Floyd and sht. And floyd having him miss and saying :umad:
