http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/i...er-jr-says-fight-marcos-maidana-again-sept-13

"Sept. 13, back to business, Marcos Maidana-Floyd Mayweather, part II," Mayweather said. "And then in May, I'm fighting in May and I'll have a big surprise for ya'll."

However, Maidana manager Sebastian Contursi told ESPN.com on Tuesday that there was no deal yet and that he has been talking with Al Haymon -- the adviser to both Mayweather and Maidana -- about the fight.
"Still in the talks. Nothing confirmed on our side," Contursi told said. "Hopefully, we'll have a decision made in the next 4-5 days."

According to multiple industry sources, the fight generated around 850,000 buys -- not close to the 1 million-plus predicted by Mayweather and way off the 2.2 million (second all time) generated by his previous fight last September against Canelo Alvarez.

Maidana wanted to wear a pair or gloves that had been approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission but Mayweather objected. The gloves were considered better gloves for a puncher and Maidana is known for his power. So the sides made a deal for Maidana to change gloves the day before the fight.

Although neither side would disclose the terms of the deal -- or even admit that there was one -- sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com that Mayweather agreed to pay Maidana an additional $1.5 million to change gloves. That doubled Maidana's official purse, which was $1.5 million on his Nevada contract. However, sources told ESPN.com that Maidana was guaranteed $4.2 million and wound up earning at least $5.7 million, including the payment for the gloves change.

EDIT: The gloves - Maidana presented custom white Everlast MX which Mayweather protested and the commission agreed to disallow. A new pair of standard red Everlast MX was opened and the commission approved these. Maidana ends up fighting with Black Everlast's.
Why did you bold that part, and not the edit? :heh:

Either way, any issues with gloves should be sorted out during negotiations, not the night before the damn fight :comeon:

. . hope this isn't anything like the Roy Jones - Antonio Tarver rematch

LOL maaaaan its so crazy you say that, cuz Ive been feeling that way for months now. Jones is my fav fighter and the greatest ive ever seen and I never saw that loss coming. The similarities of Jones and Mayweather letting Tarver and maidana beat on them while lying on the ropes, digging deep to pull out the victory, winning a disputed and close decision, and taking immediate rematches has me fearing that Mayweather may get KO'd in the rematch. :sadcam:

History doesn't repeat itself, jack. Plus maidana has no where near the skill level Tarver had.

He's not getting KOd breh.. Maidana already been exposed and everyone should now be aware of how he was tampering with the padding in his gloves sp he could hurt his opponent much easier

fukk that:ufdup:

Y'all love to bring up Maidana beating Broner......KNOWING he was using the same gloves that he tried to fight Mayweather with and wasn't allowed too, but that doesn't stop your slander:birdman:

Maidana ain't been exposed, because he was STILL roughing Floyd up and landing more punches on him than anyone Floyd ever fought. If Maidana would've wore the Cotto gloves (the ones the NSAC approved, but Floyd paid him 1.5 million not to wear those either), those punches would've done much more damage.

Even with the bigger gloves, he could've gotten a draw.....imagine if he was wearing the punchers gloves that were approved and he landed as much as he did.

Maidana has great power. He's not really skilled, so he brawls, but his power is true

And you know what.. I apologize for that if it came off like AB hate, Im sure AB was done dirty too.. My intention was never to slander AB because I slick like the dude and I think he has a bright future, but I strongly feel he needs to be discipline and stay FAR away from Welterweight for at least a couple of years..

As far as Maidana/Floyd.. Yea Maidana was connecting, but did he really ever hurt Floyd for real at any point of the fight? And he came into the ring as a damn Super middleweight. . If he would've worn the gloves he planned on wearing and didn't get caught cheating, I have no doubt he would've dropped Floyd the way Floyd was bullshytting around the first half. I believe Maidana's so called power is questionable now.. How long has he been moving the padding from out the way of his knuckles breh??

I don't know how long his gloves have been that way:manny:

I wonder how the fight would've played out if he wore the gloves Cotto wore (NSAC approved) though instead of those bigger ones he had on:lupe:
