Yea if anything I feel like this made me side with 9th. They're the ones who told him not to join the first tour. Then they act slighted cause he was like "aight":yeshrug:....I can't stand passive aggressive shyt like that. It's female type behavior. Cause from 9th's end he prolly felt like they didn't want him there. And they even said they formed a bond very quick and 9th was pretty much the odd man out.

Seems like they were salty about dude blowing up and following opportunities. At the end of the day if he's giving you all the beats then he's apart of the group. Period. Don't matter if he's not behind the boards at the shows or not chilling with y'all in the studio. Y'all are rapping over his music. End of story. They even said he's not really a social guy like that so don't see why they'd be surprised if he's not constantly in the mix when he's really not needed like that. Y'all got the beats. That's enough.

Then he goes to London and they basically push him away and tell him to kick rocks. So it seems to me 9th was willing to make an effort but they were too prideful to make amends and just let it be. It had to be all or nothing. And that's just not realistic when you're dealing with a high level producer.

This whole time I always thought it was 9th who was acting like a diva. But now it seems like it was phonte and pooh all along who were acting jealous. And pooh still seems bitter about it. But it is what it is. They went their separate ways. Still made dope music. 9th has had a successful career. But they let their ego's get in the way.

Back when there were reports than 9th was working with Jay me and my boys talked about how they might break up because 9th was going to be bigger than the group.
This whole time that they've been taking little shots at 9th which led to fans to shytting on him. I didn't buy it without hearing 9th's side of it.

The documentary confirmed what I originally thought without 9th saying a word. They felt a way about 9th being bigger than LB. Tay was acting like they expected him to branch out as a producer and were happy for him. They told him to do his thing with Jay but as soon as they realized tour life was rough there was resentment for 9th. They were sleeping on cots and he's in the lab with Destiny's Child. It's more than just 9th not being there. Even Big Dho was mad because fans were asking about 9th and he's not even in the group. They basically decided amongst themselves that 9th was out. Then Tay decides that 9th wouldn't like tour life because he wouldn't be surrounded by people who look up to and worship him. Where did that comment even come from? :dahell:

You call 9th and tell him that he wouldn't like being on tour and it's better he just stays back and let them finish then get mad at him when he says OK. Pooh really said it was like he never wanted to go in the first place :stopitslime:

The damage was done at that point and 9th probably felt alienated. You pushed him away but can't understand why he wasn't all in. He comes to London and you tell him that he can't come to the show. That's because you saw 9th's face on the posters and promoters wanted him there. There's definitely some jealousy and resentment.

Even through all that 9th still called to check on Pooh after he almost died and Tay didn't. The same way Tay didn't feel comfortable taking to him is probably how 9th felt when it came to the group.

They were all young, had different personalities, and weren't really friends like that before the music so I can understand why there was conflict. I'm not mad at them but I hate when fans choose sides and dog someone because they think they're the reason one of their favorite groups broke up. They're not obligated to get along for your entertainment.

Just finished the Doc. LB has such a legendary slept on catalog.im happy they put this together. I also think Pooh and Tay had some resentment towards 9th. But I think all 3 of them contributed to the break up in their own way. But I'm glad they were able to patch things up in the end. Even if 9th isn't a part of the group I'm pretty sure it's still respect there.

My only thing about the documentary I just with they would have touched on how much Pooh has grown as an mc. With his albums and mixtapes. How much he's elevated himself lyrically.

Yea that whole shyt with them telling 9th not to come then getting offended when he just said ok was some female energy.

I think they really didn't want him there cause they knew he would take all their shine.

Anyone who doesn't see that probably gives off female energy themselves.

They were wrong for that. They basically set him up to be the fall guy.

I was hoping that by the end they would have realized that. The same way they realized they were wrong in how they approached each other when they fell out is the same way they needed to acknowledge how they handled 9th was wrong. They had to talk for hours and iron out their differences before making music but they jumped straight into making music with 9th. Him wanting to produce the whole album seemed like him re-staking a claim to Little Brother after they said Little Brother is just Phonte and Pooh.

I think 9th washing his hands of them makes it hard for them to get closure. There's still some ego involved because he won't submit.

i will say this…from my brief interactions with 9th in our clubhouse room i usually frequent, he’s never kicked their back in whenever one of us brings up little brother or one of their albums.

I mean they perceived it as that due to the amount of time they’ve spent together. I can see that being the case. And it was probably annoying people asking for 9th when he wasn’t coming on tour. Then him randomly showing up had promoters wanting to withhold money. More trouble than it was worth

Watched this with my girll..excellent doc and i agree with yall, the egos of tay and pooh really killed a magical group. The funniest part of all this was my girl saying 9th still had the largest part of the mural at the very end. I was rollin like after all that them nikkas still got the b line 20 years later :dead:

great doc.. LB Bizness still :salute:

I mean the group is still together in that its Pooh and Phonte still putting out dope music and still touring. And 9th had his hand in the bullshyt too or when they reformulated he would’ve been part of it. Lets not skip over him making stipulations that involved refusing to tour, only showing up for the “big” festivals, and not being in the studio with them and only emailing beats. Sounds like 9th doesn’t want to do any GRIND work and thats cool if you don’t have too but like Phonte said the GROUP makes the majority of its money on touring and shows. 9th can’t shirk the process when both Pooh and Phonte have other careers that would make a half assed Little Brother reunion not be worthwhile. Phonte especially doesn’t “need” Little Brother to be successful, he’s arguably had more success, certainly when it comes to finances, as the face of Foreign Exchange than as a member of Little Brother, so this is really a reunion thats about brotherhood, camaraderie, and love for the culture than it is anything else and if 9th can’t humble himself and be an EQUAL member of the group then thats on him not Phonte or Pooh

Looking forward to peeping soon. Sounds like it delves into the 9th stuff, including his initial involvement in the reunion. As a fan it's been so weird watching that relationship. I remember when 9th started getting placements for other projects and wondering how all that worked. Going from (southern) underground to getting massive checks from Jay/Black Album had to be wild.

Personally as a fan I don't really care if they make music together again. At this point "Little Brother" has been Phonte and Pooh longer than a trio, and they've made amazing music in multiple eras. I just hope that one day as black men they're able to have a meal together again, or be in a building together without it feeling weird.

I remember being in Gboro around the era of their rise and prime.

was at A&T but we definitely heard the noise them boys was making in Durham.

Then when I discovered 9th was from my hometown and basically same side of town…. It really resonated with me wanting them to win.

The first time I met 9th was the most randomish shyt.

I happen to be home one random weekend (WS) and saw one of my best friends roommates, who was a beat maker himself at T.

They was in the food court chilling. And it was odd, cuz. I ain’t see my boy (his roommate) around so I’m like “what you doing here breh?” Cuz he not a Winston cat, he from Rocky Mount.
That’s dope right there. I’ll show you love even tho you an Aggie :pacspit::russ:

I never met 9th but I was at Central around the time he started teaching there. Play (from Kid N Play) was teaching at that time too. I remember walking on campus one morning and a tall dude walking past with a hoody on. Like 10 secs later I stopped and was like that was 9th Wondra :ohhh:

But I finally got a chance to watch the doc last night. LB had a huge impact on my life. LB was a part of the reason I went to Central. My whip in HS didn’t have a CD player, so when Getback dropped I had recorded the whole album to a cassette and played that until I bought a CD player lmaooo I got articles, blog posts, etc that I’ve written about them (old and recent). I was at their last NC show back in 2010 at Cat’s Cradle and one of their first MTLW shows in Seattle back in 2019. I ain’t been a fan since day 1 (2002) but I doubt you can find a bigger fan than me.

I find it hard to agree with yall saying this put Pooh and Tay in a worse light by ”downing“ 9th or being salty. 9TH COULD’VE TOLD HIS SIDE OF THE STORY and we could’ve formed more well-rounded opinions from there. I’ve been reading and hearing about 9th’s part-time involvement for so long, I believe what they’re saying to be true. Plus I’ve heard stories from the early Jamla days that further cement that. But I’m just a random outsider.

But It was great to hear all the backstories, see the tour footage and just learn a lot of new things. Like I didn’t know Apologies by Phonte was written for English class. That’s been one of my favorite Phonte joints for ages

I’m the not the biggest fan of autobiographical documentaries, but this was well produced (animation was dope) and had great interviews. I really hate 9th wasn’t in it. The funny thing is some of these stories and “beefs” played out on MySpace blogs and The Lawn around that time. It seemed like every few months somebody was beefing with 9th for some reason lol. K Slack, Jozeemo, etc

I got on the Lawn around 06 or 07 and being on there to converse with my favorite artists and being a member on there really shaped my music taste. I remember @TheDarceKnight was on there under his other screen name (WM) and I linked with Ilajide from Clear Soul Forces, I think I wrote the first blog post about their music. Probably my favorite message board I’ve ever been a part of, Coli 2nd and then Niketalk.

But outside of the music, the LB story is about brotherhood, communication (or lack thereof) and maturity. It’s been great to see all three of them grow in their own ways, make an impact on culture and music and still continue to evolve after 20+ yrs in the game. My life has been forever changed by their music and influence.
