A lottery pick is 100% more valuable than putting all of your eggs in the play-in basket when another team controls your fate. That pick is the biggest asset they have in improving the team and surrounding Luka/Kyrie with adequate support pieces. The Mavs need to put a playoff contender around Luka next season and that pick presents the best opportunity to do so. It has more trade value than any Mav besides Luka. No GM is prioritizing a less than 5% chance of making the playoffs over a lottery pick.
