Shameful organization. Maybe an unprecedented move. They seem content on ‘just let Luka do it ’. This will be Brunson, wood, and kyrie gone out the door in under a year, as they just stockpile role players to stand around so Luka can play high usage ball. Complete clusterfukk

Thread title is wrong. OKC has the tiebreaker so Dallas isn't 0.5 games out of the play-in. They would need to win their last two games AND have OKC lose in order to make the play-in, and Memphis has nothing to play for so it's pretty much guaranteed that OKC was gonna win their final game if they wanted to.

If Dallas was actually trying to miss the playoffs, they wouldn't have played Kyrie 43 minutes and Luka 38 minutes in a 123-119 win over the Kings in their previous game. But then the Thunder beat the Jazz the next night, and it looks like they saw the writing on the wall at that point.

Dallas was shot, they didn't really have a chance anymore.

We don't know if Memphis has nothing to play for
They're not locked into the 2 seed yet

The Thunder aren’t world beaters they’re a team of youngins just like Memphis. And Memphis consistently wins with top guys out. Memphis even without a few starters can absolutely beat OKC

I mean you're right that the Mavs are making certain assumptions with this move. And you can question the wisdom of those assumptions. But it's still clear they're making assumptions based on what they think will happen, not on a desire to "tank". If they were really looking to tank, then why did they play Kyrie and Luka so hard in a big win over the Kings in their most recent game, back when their chances for the 10th seed were a bit higher?

Doesn't make much sense for a tanking team to go all-out to beat the Kings 123-119 when a Thunder loss in their next game would have pulled Dallas into the 10 slot.

Their pick is top 10 protected this year otherwise it goes to the Knicks. Why would Dallas want to make the playoffs to get eliminated in the first round?:what:
That logic don’t apply this year. You have kyrie and Luka you should 100% think you can beat Denver or Memphis…the same way LA and GS thinks they can

If you don’t think that, you’re in a TON of trouble. Bc there is no pathway to any help whatsoever. Can’t trade anybody can’t add anybody. Might even lose kyrie. So if you can’t compete now wtf is the 8th or 9th pick gonna do? They are fukked

Well they weren’t tanking the whole year. That’s not the point. I’m saying that NOW when things can go in either direction they are making their choice. It’s horrible optics.

Why not play it out and if OKC wins as everyone assumes, you can hit the fake hustle ‘aww shucks we really wanted to win but we’re out’. By pulling out when OKC hasn’t even won yet it’s atrocious optics and in this hypersensitive player climate it’s something to remember if Luka demands a trade down the line
