Mavericks will offer Luka Doncic the 5-year $200M rookie extension once free agency begins

Would you have any hesitation on Luka?

Yup. Those who don't get the max or close to it usually aren't good enough or "bet on themselves"

Pelicans are in thia situation now with Lonzo. They can match any offer he gets but will they?

Say the Knicks offer 4/100....do they match?

I'd say no. You don't want to run into a situation where you overpay for a player and then the contract ages horribly and you aren't able to offload it without sweeteners. Lonzo/Ingram/Zion just isn't a big 3 core that I'd want to lock up long term and kill all flexibility going forward.

I don't believe in locking in a young core long term just because they show some potential. You end up running exactly into a situation like what's going on in Sacramento right now.

Man! If I could control time, I'd send Luka back to play on that early 2000's Clippers squad with Elton Brand, Darius Miles, Q Rich, Odom, and Maggette. He'd be the missing ingredient to that squad becoming ultra vicious:wow:...Or even on that '03 Suns squad before Nash got there.Luka with ISO Joe and finishers like Amare Stoudemire & Shawn Matrix:ohlawd:

Crazy how these NBA revenues keep skyrocketing. Just two years ago the max rookie extension was 5/158 (Karl Anthony Towns) and now its 200 million, that’s wild

Goat league in terms of $$
Guys on the supermax are making more than whole teams payroll were 15 years ago

Luka's the supermax rookie extension with him making All-NBA Team. Hitting that criteria nets you an extra $30+ million on your rookie contract. Zion can get it as well if he makes All-NBA team within the next years.

Yeah that happened with KAT (that’s why I used him as a reference) to and it still wasn’t 200 million

I don't think any player coming out of their rookie deal has ever turned down that max extension. It just doesn't happen.
And even if they did, wouldn't they become a restricted free agent where the original team can match the offer of another team?

I'd take one in the draft or let Kira Lewis Jr. see if he can be the guy to replace him (former lottery pick). My one hesitation with Lonzo and giving him that much is that he's completely useless on offense if the 3pt shot isn't falling for him. His offensive numbers are rather ugly if his shot just isn't falling lol.

Not someone that I'd want to invest $25 million per season in. As he'll never be more than a #3 option (at best) on a championship team. Even young guys in the league are coming in with better offensive games than Lonzo and he's 4 years in lol.

You can force your way into free agency, which Greg Monroe did where the original team wouldn't be able to match offers. Too much money to turn down though that's why no one has ever done it.
