Yup. Those who don't get the max or close to it usually aren't good enough or "bet on themselves"
Pelicans are in thia situation now with Lonzo. They can match any offer he gets but will they?
Say the Knicks offer 4/100....do they match?
I'd say no. You don't want to run into a situation where you overpay for a player and then the contract ages horribly and you aren't able to offload it without sweeteners. Lonzo/Ingram/Zion just isn't a big 3 core that I'd want to lock up long term and kill all flexibility going forward.
I don't believe in locking in a young core long term just because they show some potential. You end up running exactly into a situation like what's going on in Sacramento right now.
Crazy how these NBA revenues keep skyrocketing. Just two years ago the max rookie extension was 5/158 (Karl Anthony Towns) and now its 200 million, that’s wild

Yeah that happened with KAT (that’s why I used him as a reference) to and it still wasn’t 200 millionLuka's the supermax rookie extension with him making All-NBA Team. Hitting that criteria nets you an extra $30+ million on your rookie contract. Zion can get it as well if he makes All-NBA team within the next years.
And even if they did, wouldn't they become a restricted free agent where the original team can match the offer of another team?I don't think any player coming out of their rookie deal has ever turned down that max extension. It just doesn't happen.

Dont necessarily disagree
So if the Pelis let Zo walk, then what
