Its just a symptom of technology. Keep in mind the homoe video market he is talking about was seen a major threat to Hollywood when it was introduced in the 70s
nah, they've always been following that formula. It just used to be star based instead of IP based.
Instead of a million marvel movies, you had a million action films starring the same action stars doing the same catch phrases over and over.
Instead of a bunch of rambo films, and die hard films, and james bond films, stuff like that, you got a bunch of avengers films.
They mad the audience is here to see their favorite characters instead of their favorite actors

Used to be there were limited network slots and a regular audience of people "going to the movies" cause it was a thing to do, so TV had to appeal to a broad audience while films could take more risk
Now all the streamers need content and ppl don't go to the movies like that, so TV takes more risks while all the movies have to be tied to some IP

Movies, music, TV shows arent made for art...they are made to make money. It aint rocket science. If I can throw Dom and his Family into any scenario with an actor from back in the day and a wrestler and make a billy each time Ima do that shyt.
Damon can save the plea cops. Him and his friends got the money and the names to make anything they want. No names dropping movies on Tubi everyday B. His ass just dont want put the money up and take the risk.

Back when he had the physique he was doing all them Jason bourne movies. and didn't seem to have a problem with sequels, or fictional action franchises.
in fact most of these actors you hear vocal about this were taking roles like that early in their careers. but get mad that their audience doesn't age with them and watch more introspective peices late in their careers
