Yeah they should’ve tried to transition to an online brand along the lines of bleacher report 10 years ago... the print magazine industry been dead...

no reason why they should’ve let Bleacher Report even become a “thing” on their watch. SI has been in the game since day one and fumbled the bag by not adapting when they had more than enough time to get it together.

Last time I read SI was

Wade and Melo look like middle schoolers there. Man, time flies.

Anyway, I didn't realize 'til recently that they cut back to biweekly publishings early last year. Should've figured then the writing was on the wall. Shame; it was a staple of my childhood.

And ESPN The Mag bit the dust just last month. Magazines are getting hit as hard as newspapers now.

Everywhere...You never there.
Aside from some of the old, longtime beat writers at the local papers, Woj and Shefty are literally the last of the Mohicans when it comes
to legit “sports journalism” ... Shefty is literally his own brand right now, singlehandedly carrying the torch . He needs to make a power play soon .

For a long time, these companies couldn't figure out making money consistently from the internet, so they just played it safe.

ESPN isn’t killing it tho. They’re struggling and made a lot of budget cuts and same with every sports broadcasting network.

SI should’ve went the digital subscription route sooner and invest in digital talent/podcasters sooner. They were late to the party and had to play catch up.

It was more of a “cleaning house” of the old guard

Now they have more athletes, influencers hosts and reporters that are active on social media with big followings ...this helps wish earned impressions and marketing they don’t have to spend money on lots of those old anchors etc weren’t killin it on the gram/twitter etc

It had less to do with budgets and more to transitioning into being more entertainment focused with more talking heads with shock value less traditional journalism

ESPN is doing great and they have their own streaming app etc they know what they’re doing

They arrogantly played it status quo because 1). They didn’t think it’d get “too bad” for the print model (and when they realized it did get that bad, shyt was already dead) 2). The old white men didn’t listen to and/or higher a diversity of younger voices and bring them to the table for discussions about modifying the model and 3). The old , rich white publishers really didn’t understand the gravity of the situation because they were so detached and rich as fukk anyway .

@JoseLuisGotcha ESPN isn’t doing great but has stayed afloat pretty well considering the climate .

Old heads and leadership out of touch and thinking they'll be on top forever. Get these out of touch with the times cats out of here
