The more interesting thing is how he was a part of the gay community but they will try to downplay that notion so it wont seem like they were actually victimized by one of their own. After finding that out, its not as easily convincing that it was a hate crime directed at them for specifically being gay since he was as well as opposed to a shooting rampage at a place that he went to that just so happened to be a gay bar because he was gay himself.
Its like when people bring up black on black when we mention being targeted by others specifically because we are black. The difference is black on black crime doesnt happen because we are black. It happens because we share the same community. When others attack us, its usually because we are black. On that same token, can they really say they were targeted because they were gay when its possible that a gay attacked the people that was in his community of gayness.
