I know/knew a Russian brother and sister that went to school here. The dude was aight, kinda arrogant but it was cool. The sis was really cool, me and her was alone in a room before and I got the impression that I could have hit if I tried. (But as you all know, I don't play in the snow.)
Anyway haven't seen them probably in about ten years but when the Ukraine Russia war popped off, I looked the sister up on FB.
She was all in on the Russian propaganda
She didn't have one nice thing to say about Ukraine. She sounded like a Russian nationalist

What's there not to understand? There's this thing called Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. Poland was attacked from both sides. Soviets weren't the good guys. Nazis were just worse.
Why would Russians want to emulate Nazis?
Because there are some who believe in fascism, just not when its against themselves. There are tons of Russian far-right nazi admiring groups. Doesn't make sense because of their history, but hypocrisy isn't enough to stop some people from acting in a particular way.
The Wagner group was co-founded by a legit neo nazi with SS and other nazi tattoos. The name itself is a reference to Richard Wagner, a composer who Hitler loved and a lot of nazis admire.
