wtf do sales got to do with being classic

only when it comes to jay z is where sales determine is a album classic

harlem world is ok borderline good at best

everything back then. Monkey barz from Sean Price is in my personal top5 LPs but I would never have the audacity to call it classic. Nobody knows who Sean Price is.

How is Harlem world not a classic when it literally changed rap.

Reasonable doubt has zero impact on rap. It didn't bring anything new 2 the table. Dope album but stop it. Ma$e changed how people rap and make LPs.

Jay-Z had to go back to the drawing board cause reasonable doubt was a dub. "Dumb down my lyrics 2 double up my dollars"

Not for nothing a lot of MCs didn't have 2 do that and had success. A lot of people blew major way younger than him. How many times did HOVA change his identity?

Yea I know about them

exactly....great example.....jay-z literally has ma$e DNA in him after working with him and observing with him. he was a feature on Harlem world and ranks on the bottom end of that album. He was not rapping like that AT ALL PRIOR TO WORKING WITH MA$E.

case closed. hell of a chameleon tho.

Jay didn’t sound like Mase until the 2nd album because that’s what was popular at the moment though. They had that Cheat On You together too. Mase dissed him on that I’m No Playa song.

its semantics at this point. the overall point is that Jay-Z constantly switched up as a grandpa.
I'm from the school where that means something. Not from the era where designer "wasn't a future biter" BROOKLYN THO

I don’t really like to pick and choose between rappers I like. I listen to both still regularly. Mase & Jay are not the same artists though.

I feel you but this whole thread is about giving credit where its due. They have been trying to re-image this shyt for a minute. I love RD especially as someone who rhymes. But NO history n the facts matter.

If we don't preserve this thats how platforms like COMPLEX get to re-write history.

Kill that noise.

2 many rappers are unsung and got plagiarized.

I don’t really hear Mase on Reasonable Doubt as much from what I know, again they’re not the same artist. Jay is a rapper who raps about getting out the drug game. Mase was a fly dude getting chicks who played ball and rapped about the flamboyant rich lifestyle.
