Jay Z was 26,(would be 27 at the end of the year) when his album dropped, Mas is 2 years older than me and he was 21 going on 22. Why do we continue to do this? hahahatrue....plus one was 30 and the other was another teenager![]()

DMX was nothing until Harlem World came out.Because you believe the song is the reason DMX blew up (false), and are forcing your belief that nobody liked those songs from RD when it was originally released (also false), it automatically makes it better?
Slept? It just wasn't that good. It's not some 5 mic album. It ain't near the best albums of 96. Odd take. Revisionist history because blew up and dropped hits by early 98.that doesn't mean it was better. Everyone slept on RD. I still have the ORIGINAL copy with the gun art and 2 dots above the Y. A year later, it was taken off the shelves. Jay blew up in 1998 and everyone then wanted a copy of RD and coulnd't get it until the 1998 reissue. The source dissed it in their summer of 96 issue with Nas on the cover(IT WAS WRITTEN also got only 4 mics in the same issue). People really didn't appreciate it at the time. Mase came in during a time that Big as died, Puffy was already a star and he had the red carpet laid out for him. No one outside of the purists knew Jay Z. I was in the army in 1997 and I knew dudes from the south that had never heard of Jay Z. They would introduce me to albums from Cash Money artists like BG, UNLV, and shyt I had never heard of and I'd introduce them to artists like Jay Z and Organize Konfusion. 27 years later, we all know what is the better album. And this is not a diss to Mas cuz that was an amazing album too. At the same time, Illmatic wasn't being bumped heavily from the mainstream in 1994 as well. Warren G's debut that year outsold it by at least 6x more. Are we also saying Regulate the G Funk Era(an amazing album) is better than Illmatic too?
no revisionist history. I haven't listened to a Jay Z album in YEARS. I just think his music today is shytty, but back then, he came out at the wrong time and was sandwiched between Nas and Outkast's sophmore albums. The album was great then and it's great now. I'm not some Brooklynite, Jay Z fan at all, but i knew what I was hearing back then in '96 and couldn't believe no one else heard it. The same with Illmatic. It was praised in magazines and on Rap City/Yo, but I don't remember one female in my area that owned it. Now all these bytches in my age group of late 40s claim they were Nas fans from the beginning. hahaha. And it is near the best albums of 1996. You don't believe that RD was one of the best albums of the year when one of hte highest selling albums that year was the DoggFather???Slept? It just wasn't that good. It's not some 5 mic album. Thisā¦In retrospect. Though Mase was more popular his rookie year⦠Jay had the better album.
I really hate defending a pos like Puff, but your timeline is off. Dre was rapping since the early 80s long before he was a "gansta". He became a mogul AFTER releasing albums with World Class Wrecking Cru and NWA. JD's fist album dropped in 98. He was ghostwriting for his acts prior to that. He'd appear on a song or 2, but no album until 1998.Puff started to rap because other rap moguls/producers were doing it. Dre was successful at it. JD was doing it.
Puff's buzz wasn't a rap buzz. Who was checking for a Puff album on the strength of Puff being Puff without him rapping? You're not making sense.

Puff dropped a verse on Dolly My Baby before JD dropped his verse with Da Brat. The timeline isn't off. I never dropped times. The point was Dre and JD were rapping before Puff and were moguls/producers rapping before Puff
With JD, of course he didn't have an album until '98, but he was still rapping before he dropped a solo. He was rapping on Brat tracks in 1994 before we heard Puff drop a verse.

I always thought Harlem World album cover was done on a $100 budget. Mase on one knee in front of a baby blue backdrop throwing up the duece and the big ass āMāon top of the word āHarlem Worldā looks so cheap to me lol
