You keep connecting where I'm from to mobb deep. Other than the subliminal line you actually think he was trying to sound like mobb deep there???? Wtf?
The video he was definitely jocking the Mobb Deep/Wu aesthetic though...like Prodigy said, he was on that Big WIllie shyt in all his videos prior, then that video looks like Shook Ones and Survival of the Fittest.

He was trying to make his most street record and Mobb Deep was the best reference point for NY nikkas :yeshrug:

RD Era and pre RD Jay-z was poppin Cristal, ridin in helicopters and yachts, wearin suits, smokin cigars, wearin platinum, and filmin in the hamptons among other exotic places. It didnt come after big died...big was in some of these videos. Jigga been on that jiggy shyt. Lets quit trying to change documented history.

Yh even Nas acknowledged it when giving the background to their beef

Jigga started to flow like us, but hit with "Ain't No nikkas"
Had much Versace swagger
Big admired the Brooklynite and took him in as Iceberg the rapper

Random sidebar but Jay looked so awkward in his music videos until about Vol. 2 :mjlol:

It's always interesting to see rappers early on in their career before they get that swag/charisma/confidence perfected.

The whole Vol 1 and Hov style is fly,Flashy, get money….

Then you have the one song that’s different from the rest of the album.

Where I’m from was definitely inspired by Mobb/Grimey sound which outside of the bad boy sound was the only wave that was lit at the time
