I think the song was inspired by Marvin Gaye and it sounds kind of similar, but I don't think its a crime by any means.

How is it even possible to sue for using a similar sound in a production?
Because its too similar to be a coincidence hence the suit. It was either just pharell forgetting where he got the inspiration or total jack move but its undeniable. Sometimes as a producer you might replicate shyt that influences you without even thinking consciously about it.

What is all the Pharell backlash about?

That's what's confusing to me as well because when the song first came out, it was a lot of people praising it. The "Got To Give It Up" similarities were pretty obvious, but because some posters have agendas, that part was overlooked and now it's open season. :laff:All of a sudden, there was a flock of Robin Thicke fans, now he's a "culture vulture". The backlash is that Pharrell assisted Robin in his "culture vulturing".

Yeah its not a coincidence, but being influenced by a song and ripping it off are 2 different things. I don't see this song crossing the line at any point with the melody just in the sound and style of the production, which is not a crime.

Although I agree in that I don't really understand how the Gaye family is winning this shyt, I still am happy to see this unfold because Robin Thicke just seems like a real piece of shyt. I'm not one of them "he's got soul" types who was all up on his nuts, I never liked him and am glad he is getting got. And I'm sure there is some legal precedent and the judge isn't just making shyt up, but maybe he is, maybe he is just a Marvin fan and doesn't like Thicke. Idk. Either way, they "got to give it up", just like the song say

This is insanity. Everybody wanting to see robin take this L. I hope you relize this precedent could wreak havoc on hip hop. For decades the rule has been you can't sample with out clearance. Now all of a sudden they wanna say you can't make something that sounds similar :why:

Exactly....this is some bullshyt honestly. nikkas in here just cheering and going cac/c00ns without really paying attention to what this opens up the door for, stupids.

A lot of music production dummies on here I see. If you've ever attempted to create a beat, youd know they ripped off Marvin Gaye. It doesn't have to be sample.
