With reports this week that Michael B. Jordanand Lupita Nyong'o are set join Chadwick Boseman in "Black Panther," the 2018 Marvel film is clearly assembling an impressive cast. However, they may only be the tip of the iceberg.

"That will be among the best ensembles we've ever had," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently told The Empire Film Podcast, "and 90 percent of the cast is either African or African-American."

Considering that Black Panther, Marvel Comics' first black superhero, is the king of the technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda, Feige's statement might seem obvious: Of course a majority of the actors will be African or African-American. However, it comes as Marvel addresses whitewashing accusations in its casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in "Doctor Strange," DreamWorks faces similar criticisms for its remake of "Ghost in the Shell,"and Hollywood studios are under increased scrutiny for a lack of diversity in front of and behind the camera.

When it was pointed out in the interview that having a superhero film with an African character in the lead is "a huge step for Marvel," Feige replied, "It's a step that Marvel took many years ago in the comics as well,

and it felt like it's more than due time to do that in the movie."

"Black Panther" is directed by Ryan Coogler ("Creed"), whom Feige called a "pretty astounding filmmaker," from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole. The film opens Feb. 16, 2018.

Marvel's "Black Panther" Cast Will Be 90% African or African-American

Don't know if it has been posted already. If so, I apologize.

If this is true do you think it'll get the support it deserves? The more we support all black cast main stream movies the more we'll get in the future.

It has to be, or else it isn't a black panther movie.

Hollywood makes movies in Asia with majority white casts. They make movies in Egypt with majority white casts. They make movies in urban American cities without diversity. The only time they use middle eastern people in movies is when they need villains. I don't think it has to be, according to Hollywood.

If they bullshyt around with that, then I simply won't watch it. :yeshrug:

Doubt they will at this point, they've gone on record on what direction they are going, cast wise.

Hopefully the 10% will be Stan and Jack Kirby's names in the credits....

You know it won't lol

“It’s a big geopolitical action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T’Challa in Wakanda, and what it means to be a king,” Feige explained.

I imagine the white people we'll see popping around with be Klaw (for obvious reasons) and the federal guy from civil war possibly ( again for obvious reasons). But they won't get too much focus and I trust Coogler to put them on the back burner during the movie.

Everett Ross was introduced for BP so him for sure. Then you possibly have Klaw, T'challa's brother Hunter (White Wolf) and maybe a Cap/Bucky cameo.

It's risky because while most of y'all are comic buffs, the majority of folks who just enjoy marvel films don't know BP, that paired with places like Asia not caring for black movies could easily make it a financial disappointment.
