I don't think the MCU movies count toward Sony retaining the rights to Spider-Man stuff though, which is why they are doing Venom/Morbius and threatening to do all kinds of other trash out of desperation. I don't think animated stuff like Spider-verse counts either which sucks because they would be better off just doing that instead.
Unless people are advocating for another director to take on BP, the hold up is Coogler and his other projects it seems like.
