This guy thought he was tough fighting someone who had a knife. He lost. For you guys who like studying all that fake pressure point nonsense, maybe you should take time to realize that putting a knife in those points will serve you a lot better then one of your bony knuckles.

Someone who wants to hurt you close quarters, with a knife is going to hurt you. You can have a gun in your back pocket but if you are 1 second away from that man, you wont have time to pull your little gun and do much of anything. Obviously there are scenarios where the gun guy has the distinct advantage but there are many where he does not, in particular in close quarters. There was a video on worldstarhiphop not to long ago where a man with a butcher knife killed 2 cops and injured 1 with a butcher knife while they had him surrounded by ak47s. He got the drop on one, chased another down and injured a 3rd. Guns are not everything, in combat.

Now this dude trying to claim that there are "many scenarios" where a knife could outdo a gun. And where is this place where cops have ak47s? :comeon:

Give it a rest. You're just making stuff up now. I seriously you hope you don't literally bring a knife to a gunfight someday, for your own sake. Let's get back to talking about training.

Knives are definitely not better than guns. Else cops and soldiers would be using them instead of guns.

As far as training goes, I didn't read this whole thread so I don't know if it was mentioned before, but I think every student of self-defense/combat should read the book Kill or Get Killed by Rex Applegate, one of the greatest to ever do it.

Written during WWII and its still as valid today as it was then...

Just ask me to see the footage. I know you want to see it. You cant carry guns in los angeles so yea, i just might do that one day. Hopefully im within striking distance of the man with the gun. YOu gotta just go for it like Rocky or run and get your Barry Sanders on.

All because you guys arent open minded to weapons techniques? I doubt it. This is real life man. You cant wataaaaaaaaaaa your way to victory. Sometimes, in martial arts, we have to get dirty. Are you ready for that? Is you?

:smh: @ the corny knife dude.

Anyways thread starter has been on point since he started the thread.
Even shooed away a dude who believes in Chi
Edited his posts to hide the shame but it was funny enough with the few quoted ones.

Anyways I took a little Karate when I was younger (Shotokan) I'm planning on taking it
up again, plan on looking at schools in my area that have sparring and such but if that
doesn't work out I do know of a nice little boxing gym that's right around the corner
from where I get my hair cut.
Was thinking of taking classes at one of the MMA schools in my area but they charge out the @ss something like $80 or more a month, if Karate winds up costing more, I'll go with MMA if the boxing classes aren't much cheaper.

Think dudes like Ginchin Funakoshi and Mas Oyama are just too cool.
I mainly want to do martial arts to protect myself but I'd also like to see how
I would fair in the ring.

You're welcome.
And I agree with what you're saying, I think some things about Qi
aren't so fantastical and hard to believe while other sh1t is better
left in myth's and Anime.

Also I wanted to fix my error with that last post,
that mma school is actually $120 a month.

qi as far as i see it is just yogic concepts applied to martial arts. control your mind, control your body.

i think i can i think i can i think i can

and your body will do, its just a matter of application, practice, and focus.

the concept behind qigong is actually a pretty recent phenomenon, a rebranding of internal focus methods known as neigong before the chinese cultural revolution. Unfortunately that rebranding meant that the more bullshyt aspects of the practice came to the forefront. street tricks and practitioners became more and more popular.

there are some physical conditioning methods that do exist and work in kungfu like iron palm and iron shirt (ive seen an IP practioner whack a brick apart with a hit, cool stuff), but some of it, like the 72 shaolin methods, are mostly just fukking bullshyt.
