Oh, but did they account for the fact that there are less black people in America than White people?

Like I said all the way in May: the graph shows fewer black women marry down in America than white women so obviously marrying down is not a problem. The article is just cac propaganda.

@Yup, Most Black American women get degrees in fluff disciplines.

Doesn't make them better than brehs without a degree. Quite often, brehs in the trades are making more than those women with fluff degrees and without the suffocating debt.

A Black woman with a degree in sociology who makes $40,000/year should be open to marrying a plumber who makes $50,000/year.

There are enough. Again, the flawed logic in these arguments is that the excess of Black women who have degrees are all good women, worthy of marriage.

The number of quality Black men and the number of quality Black women with degrees is roughly equal.

A lot of those women of sub-par quality with degrees should simply settle down with the brotha who is a plumber, electrician, etc.

Problem is a lot of those Black women with degrees (mainly in fluff disciplines) get massive egos and see dudes without one as beneath them, which is a problem. A sociology, psychology or any other "generic" discipline doesn't impress me.

Unless those women are racking up STEM, economics, etc. degrees left and right, they should not feel superior to a brotha without a degree. The same breh can go to his local library and pick up a few sociology, psychology, etc. books and get the same education you paid thousands of dollars for and do it without going into debt in the process.

What say you, @Yup?

Should pursue graduate school. A sociology bachelors is nothing to act like you're better than anybody.

I just think people need to stop waving their degrees like it's an automatic quality for marriage when it's not. I have a Ms,going for a phD, and my husband has a JD. I never looked down on other men for not having degrees, my first boyfriend outta college had certs and was making more than me. Doesn't matter as long as a man is bringing something tangible to the table and displays qualities you'd like in a potential father. :yeshrug:

I agree. A degree doesn't not necessarily make for a good husband or father.

The same can be said about a man's car, clothes, shoes, etc.

Too many of our women lose sight of the most important things when it comes to selecting a mate.

The brehs aren't any better when it comes to selecting a mate.

This thread isn't going to be well received because its putting Black women in a positive light while shedding a negative light on our Black men. But, this is my reality. Its hard to come across a male who can match me education, salary and career wise. I know they are out there but its rare that we cross paths.

I'm a black male in upper management in healthcare and I teach it at the university level. I also have an MBA. In every class, women outnumber men, usually by a lot. At my previous job, I used to just do head counts of men and women in manager meetings. Seriously, a 15:1 ratio between the sexes. I have been the only black male doing what I do in my areas for some years now. I know that there are underlying issues and it's not so cut and dry. However, without getting into all of that, these statistics are true or I believe them to be true. What needs to be explored is why this happens.

The trades require apprenticeship and training. It's easier to get in the states because there are more black people and we're more established at home than here in Illusionville, aka canada...where black people do mexican work.

Keep up the good work breh!

We're far outnumbering our men and it will take a while to even the playing field. As it becomes more and more lopsided scores of women will have to eventually date down.
