McElroy didn't turn the ball over. Is that not marked improvement?
But he's not.
You're a good poster so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you have a secret scouting report on McElroy that says he doesn't turn the ball over. Because that would make more sense than a seemingly rational individual taking seven pass attempts and assuming they can conclude a QB doesn't turn the ball over. Or assuming with that small a sample size you can say a QB is a marked improvement over another. Yeah, I'm going to assume that.
And, you say Sanchez isn't the better of a bad group of QBs, so who is better, and give me reasons for them being better.
Also, I won't bother on replying to the coli's resident Skip Bayless.
It's a matter of the known entity vs. the unknown entity. In regards to Tebow and McElroy, it's not about what they can do. Nobody thinks they're the future anything for this franchise. Nobody knows what McElroy can do for this team. On the other hand, we have 4 years to go on with Mark. We know what he's done this season and it's not good. For all we know, McElroy could be worse and he very well might be. Jets fans are willing to take their chances simply because the known entity (Mark) has been awful and if he plays to what he has shown, he will continue to be that. Nobody wants McElroy because he's gonna be a beast. They want him because he'd really have to apply himself to be as bad as Mark's been.
Trust me, I understand that any fanbase wants the unknown commodity over the commodity that's known to be trash. My whole point this whole thread has been, stop with the faux outrage about Sanchez not being benched. I'd be outraged if the Jets don't draft a legitimate possibility for the future of the QB position this upcoming draft. They should have done it this past draft. They're not going anywhere this year. So it doesn't really matter who starts.
I also don't think McElroy would have to apply himself to be as bad as Mark if they ask the same of him as they ask of Mark. If they put a vanilla offense out there for McElroy then he'll have to apply himself to be as bad, but if they ask him to throw as much as Sanchez does with these same "weapons", the same protection from his o-line, and the same running game that Sanchez usually gets I don't think a third stringer will have to apply himself to be bad. That's the thing, no team wants their third stringer playing. If a third stringer is getting significant playing time it signifies injuries to your other QBs or complete ineptitude from your other QBs. They're third stringers for a reason.
So from a fans POV I completely get it, but from the coaches viewpoint it makes sense why he'd go back to the starter he's had the last 3+ years. He leaves himself the option to bench Sanchez again, if need be, and go to the 3rd stringer as opposed to vice versa.

I'm immune to these stupid decisions at this point. I expect a lot of this from Mark this Sunday
