The joy-cons work pretty well, except for it being too hard to use the L bumper, which is kind of a necessity.

I used it for a few races and got used to it. Pro Controller is best for me though.
Think I'm going with auto acceleration from now on cause I feel like I'm killing the A button when using this. I'm used to the GC controller playing Kart, which had a huge, mushy A button that was perfect for MK.

How come I see some players when they get hit by a shell they don't lose much speed if any at all...what are they doing?
